What amuses me is that Texas went to all this trouble to pass a law would is clearly un constitutional, and they don't even have any cities that have been labeled "sanctuary cities", even though they don't even know what a sanctuary city is! It is just like that thing they did a couple of years ago, where all the gun nuts were taking their rifles to McDonalds, simply because it wasn't against texas law.

Up here in August everyone rakes wild blueberries. It's back breaking but if you're good at it you can earn hundreds of bucks in a day. You work when you feel like it for as long as you feel like it and then you go home. You get paid by the "box," (big box, not a quart sized box) not the hour. The more you rake, the more you make. That's how agricultural work is done, usually. People who get good at it will earn enough to feel its worth it, I think a lot would do it seasonally if we didn't have bazillions of illegals doing it instead. Like the apple harvest, grape harvest, etc. You can work just the weekend or before or after work if the grower doesn't care. Usually every pair of hands is welcome.

The Racist History of Minimum Wage Laws



The earliest of such laws were regulations passed in regards to the railroad industry. At the end of the nineteenth century, as Dr. Walter Williams points out, "On some railroads — most notably in the South — blacks were 85–90 percent of the firemen, 27 percent of the brakemen, and 12 percent of the switchmen."1

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen, unable to block railroad companies from hiring the non-unionized black workers, called for regulations preventing the employment of blacks. In 1909, a compromise was offered: a minimum wage, which was to be imposed equally on all races.

To the pro-minimum wage advocate, this may superficially seem like an anti-racist policy. During this time, with racism still rampant throughout the United States, blacks were only able to enjoy such high levels of employment by accepting lower wages than their white counterparts. What do you think is happening with these foreigners today? We have guys on the road driving 75,000 container trucks and they don't know how to read or speak English, and they are terrible drivers to boot. The shipping clerk is trying to explain something to some foreign jerk in front of me, and after he gives up, he asks me to go outside with the guy and show him what to do.
