Texas House votes to ARREST runaway Democrats for blocking voting rights bill: State Dems sing outside the Capitol and insist they are willing to go t

That aside, it's entirely within the purview of the states to create legislation that makes voting more secure, yor disingenuous cries of wacism! notwithstanding.
Where did you see me using the word "wacism" or for that matter "racism"? My premise is simply based on the fact that extra conditions to vote almost by definition causes fewer people to vote. That is a fact completely free of race. So a strawman.
"We all know where this badly beaten path goes....Quit acting naive.
If you were honestly concerned about voter participation (which you obviously aren't), why wouldn't you focus on the roughly 1/2 of total voters who don't show up at all, and sway them to your side?
Since I didn't engage in any discussion about getting out the vote and simply focus on those that want to vote already in this OP I fail to see how you can make any assumption on my position on it. So another strawman.
You said "voter participation" with no qualifier....I pointed out potential voters who haven't "participated", which fall under that umbrella, and asked a legit question about them....A question isn't an argument, strawman or otherwise.
Let's start with Heritage being a shit source, that has been totally co-opted by the DC neocon swamp reptiles....Going to start citing CATO or Brookings next?
I don't mind people questioning sources (although I have to say attacking the heritage foundation as someone who is obviously rightwing is hilarious), but I've yet to see ANY source that actually tried to give an account of the actual extent of voter fraud in the US besides this. You certainly haven't provided any source. And attacking information that you don't agree with without actually providing a reason beyond disbelief is simply dumb. This is a genetic fallacy.

You managed to give 3 separate logical fallacies in 4 sentences. That is impressive I have to say.
Heritage is as "rightwing" (sic) as are the Bushes....As in marginally, if that much.....They're as shitty a source for anything "rightwing" (sic) as CATO and the Chamber of Commerce have become...In short, they're hacks for The State.

Republicans in the Texas State House voted 76-4 on Tuesday to arrest the runaway Democrats who fled to Washington D.C. to break the quorum and block the passage of Governor Greg Abbott's voting rights bills.

'Members, a sergeant-at-arms and any officer appointed by him are directed to send for all absentees whose attendance is not excused for the purpose of securing and maintaining their attendance under warrant of arrest if necessary,' Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan announced from the State House floor.

Texas House rules allow the sergeant-at-arms to arrest members who are not present at the Capitol for a vote – and the show of disapproval Tuesday could result in the lawmakers' arrest when they land back in the Lone Star State.

The Tuesday, however, vote doesn't hold much weight as long as the Democrats remain in Washington since by crossing state lines they have escaped jurisdiction of Texas law enforcement.

The group maintains that they aren't afraid of Governor Abbott's threats to arrest them for fleeing the state to break a quorum and avoid voting on Republicans ' election legislation.

Another example of conservatives’ contempt for our democratic institutions and the right to vote.

Actually. The answer is simple. The Democrats could resign. Then the State would have to hold a special election to fill the seats. The same Democrats run again and win. What is that? Three months? More?

Texas Democrats stage an INSURRECTION and destroy DEMOCRACY by subverting majority rule. No surprise there Dems have no respect for democracy or the rule of law they are thugs!

You expect politicians to voluntarily give up power for three whole months and risk the voters deciding to give it to someone else?

They come from heavily Democratic Districts. Whoever is elected will be a Democrat. And since they’ll be in the news every day as Republicans howl and scream they’ll have name recognition going for them.

This ^^^ goes way beyond authoritarianism, it is clearly fascism on the make. Way beyond Nixon's Enemy List, and Trump's issue to have his loyal followers commit battery against those who protest at his rallies.
um it was voted on…seems pretty democratic to me. You obviously don’t know the meaning of the words you are using

That's not how it works. The GOP would be running unopposed unless they give up the seat or announce they will not seek re-election.

This is PURE political theater.

"Heavily Democratic" doesn't mean it doesn't have a hefty helping of independents and moderates that might break toward the Republicans who do still live there. Bottom line, I just can't see any politician voluntarily giving up power for any length of time.

It is a shame that when things are done to make it easier, they can become corrupted. Early voting by mail is not a bad idea. Its implementation can be terrible. I still do not believe that what is President and Vice President now was legitimately elected.
Yet the rules used to elect them were passed by state legislatures, even GOP dominated ones because that is what was suggested by our feckless leader at the time.
No they weren’t and that’s the problem. Election officials changed the rules and that’s against the law.

No. There would be a special election. And dozens would throw their hats in. Just as they have a runoff in progress with two Republicans in a heavily Republican district. There would be a specials for the State House.

The Districts are heavily Democrat leaning. Gerrymandering has its advantages. And the districts would vote for their candidate. Anyone can run. With or without party support or affiliation.

Whoever won would be a Democrat.

True there are some who aren’t Democrats. But odds are the Democrats win.

They really don’t have any power now. By resigning they leave Abbot screaming and pounding his desk in impotent fury. It cost the Texas State Government a ton of money to run fifty special elections. It will delay this legislation for months.

It gives Abbot the chance to act even more authoritarian and as time goes by and still no signs of fraud are delivered the people may turn against it in sufficient numbers to make continuation untenable.

Mostly it insures that Abbots standing in National Electoral contests is diminished. If all he can do is pound the desk and rage there is little chance he will make a play in 2024 for the White House.

I have loads of contempt for democratic institutions. Which is why I'm actually cheering for the rebellious state reps. Majority rule blows.

Dems staged an insurrection denying democracy and subverting the will of the majority. We probably have room at GITMO for these Dem traitors.

Send Marshalls out to arrest their puckered asses, throw them in jail and impeach them all.

Let's arr4est the Republicans and impeach their fascist' asses.

The Democratic Party is all in on the "Jim Crow Lie". Smearing election reform with 100 year old laws that SPECIFICALLY TARGETED BLACK PEOPLE is a complete deception. But that's straight out of the Democrats playbook: Reach back into history, grab a handful of Racism and smear it all over modern day Republicans.

Republicans are the ones spouting lies. They even admitted they cannot find any fraud in the election. Republicans are the ones who are fascists and assaulting democracy.
