Republicans in the Texas State House voted 76-4 on Tuesday to arrest the runaway Democrats who fled to Washington D.C. to break the quorum and block the passage of Governor Greg Abbott's voting rights bills.

'Members, a sergeant-at-arms and any officer appointed by him are directed to send for all absentees whose attendance is not excused for the purpose of securing and maintaining their attendance under warrant of arrest if necessary,' Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan announced from the State House floor.

Texas House rules allow the sergeant-at-arms to arrest members who are not present at the Capitol for a vote – and the show of disapproval Tuesday could result in the lawmakers' arrest when they land back in the Lone Star State.

The Tuesday, however, vote doesn't hold much weight as long as the Democrats remain in Washington since by crossing state lines they have escaped jurisdiction of Texas law enforcement.

The group maintains that they aren't afraid of Governor Abbott's threats to arrest them for fleeing the state to break a quorum and avoid voting on Republicans ' election legislation.

Send Marshalls out to arrest their puckered asses, throw them in jail and impeach them all.

The same threat was made against Republicans who fled Oregon a few years ago to block climate legislation. Nobody was arrested there. I doubt anyone will be arrested in Texas.
What will likely happen is they will be forced to stay out of the state for the remainder of their term, and will not be able to campaign or be on the ballot for re-elction.

The Democratic Party is all in on the "Jim Crow Lie". Smearing election reform with 100 year old laws that SPECIFICALLY TARGETED BLACK PEOPLE is a complete deception. But that's straight out of the Democrats playbook: Reach back into history, grab a handful of Racism and smear it all over modern day Republicans.

Folk on both sides (Republican's and Democrats) have this mad obsession with characters from the other side getting arrested and sent to jail.

It's wishful thinking and you're only gonna be gutted when nothing comes of it.

TX law enforcement doesn't have jurisdiction in DC, but they can issue bench warrants and bounty hunters can round them up.

Abbott said that he will call consecutive special sessions until they return, are arrested, or their term in office ends.

I suppose I should clarify. What will happen is they will return and the vote will go forward, or they will lose their seats by not being able to run for re-election.

It is a shame that when things are done to make it easier, they can become corrupted. Early voting by mail is not a bad idea. Its implementation can be terrible. I still do not believe that what is President and Vice President now was legitimately elected.

Yet the rules used to elect them were passed by state legislatures, even GOP dominated ones because that is what was suggested by our feckless leader at the time.

This ^^^ goes way beyond authoritarianism, it is clearly fascism on the make. Way beyond Nixon's Enemy List, and Trump's issue to have his loyal followers commit battery against those who protest at his rallies.

Interesting thing about that rule....DEMOCRATS had to have voted for it as well when it passed as a rule they would be governed by. I guess they just thought at the time it would be used against THEM.

:p

Prove it, you have no credibility. Of course if true, it was probably when the Blue Dogs were in the Texas St. Legislature.
