"tens of millions of dead people may be collecting social security"

Of course we know..

Easy to tell if checks are sent out and who cashed them. I don’t think SS even sends checks anymore.

Doesn’t happen

So there isn't a single case of SS fraud out there?

First link I found when I googled "cash social security check dead mother"

Office of the Inspector General

Many old people have joint accounts with their children. makes it easier to continue receiving funds.

You're sure?
How so?

Exactly the point. You don't really know what you are talking about. You are just trusting what these elite, billionaire, corporate raiders are telling you and you are repeating it like some kind of fact.
A good rule of thumb when dealing with people like this, so far removed from you and (most likely) anybody you know's circumstances, is that YOUR best interest is NOT a concern of theirs.
These people have nothing but sneering contempt for the poor suckers they are able to so easily convince otherwise.
They laugh at the very people dumb enough to throw their support behind them.

I am responding to information given that people of those ages are still in the database. that's bad enough.

I'm sure I am smarter than you, mouth breather.

Liar. You are not "responding" you are parrotting.
If you want to "respond" try seeking out some REAL and credible information and practice responding to that.
Here, I'll help.

Social Security has records on millions of people, but that doesn’t mean they are actually receiving payments, said Charles Blahous, a former public trustee for Social Security and Medicare who served as deputy director of President George W. Bush’s National Economic Council.

“There are many people who were born more than 150 years ago for whom Social Security lacks information about their death, just like we lack information about a lot of things involving people who lived that long ago,” Blahous said.

The SSA also says it has a special code in place to stop payments from going to people over the age of 115.

Wired magazine reported that the number of people in the 150-year age bracket may have to do with the programming language used by the SSA, known as COBOL, or the Common Business Oriented Language. The 65-year-old system can still be found at government agencies, businesses and financial institutions.

Basically, when there is a missing or incomplete birthdate, COBOL defaults to a reference point. The most common is May 20, 1875, when countries around the world attended a convention on metric standards. Someone born in 1875 would be 150 in 2025, which is why entries with missing and incomplete birthdates will default to that age, Wired explained.

Bless your little heart.

LOL yellow font, fuck yourself.

The fact they haven't been closed is bad enough. And we don't know if they are still getting checks or not.

We know that the number of people paid SS Retirement Benefits in 2024 was 89,106, not millions.

We know that the 2020 Census put the number of Americans over 100 at just over 92,000.

We know that you have to have worked 40 quarters to qualify for SS Retirement benefits therefore the number of people alive over 100 will be slightly greater than 89,106.

The number jive.

only 89,000 people were paid SS benefits?

People aren't removed from the database.

They are kept * * IN * * the database for historical records.

"IN" the database does not mean receiving benefits.

Then let someone in power explain that.

So far the only responses I've seen from the left is "nuh uh"

Not what I said.

I said 89,106 people over the age of 100 received SS Retirement benefits in December 2024. Then went on to show how this tracks with census data.

death certificates should be required to notify SS
That’s the thing. There is no mechanism to auto notify SS when someone dies.

You’d think the coroner would be required to report it to the state and/or social security.

It’s how they’ve been grifting and stealing from SS for decades.

I can't speak of "someone in power".

I can only speak for what I do, I'm an information systems administrator dealing with HR, Payroll, and Benefits data.

WW

Anyone who has dealt with Social Security knows that they are very vigilant in retrieving funds that are paid after someone dies. There may be some fraud but it is few and far between. Unfortunately, we have MAGAs morons who fall for Trump and Musk's, and let us call it for what it is, bullshit and lies, about extensive fraud. All Trump and Musk are doing is casting doubt about the system in order to gut it later.

Are you surprised that people in the Trump administration aren’t coming out to say Elon is full of shit?

I’m not. They’d be rightfully afraid of being shit canned for speaking up.

Well that's false.

SSA receives death information from funeral homes, financial institutions, the post office, and from the states and other federal agencies.

If you need to you can call Call +1 800-772-1213 as a family member to report it.

Happens
Grandma is not reported as dead and relatives keep using her checks

Until

A death record gets reported and there is hell to pay. Whoever cashed the check is subject to criminal charges and penalties

So the claims of "it never happens" are bullshit.
