I don't know of any practicing Christians who follow televangelists. Jesus was very clear that there will be false teachers and He said "You will know them by their fruits." So it's not that hard, all one has to is see the "fruit" in a preacher or teacher's life....and if the fruit is rotten, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out someone is a fraud, or in it for the wrong reasons.

I'm not very religious but that makes perfect sense to me.

I don't know but my guess would be because there are a lot of cultural christians who - like many people in general - want to hear what their itching ears want to hear. Many of those mega preachers who make a ton of money promote the "prosperity gospel"....which goes along with people wanting to hear what they want to hear, instead of truth and sound doctrine. Actually, 2 Timothy 4:3 predicted just that.

The 1800s were in Solar Minimum. It was cooler, and the "climate scientists" tried to convince us we were going to freeze to death if we didn't give the UN all of our money. Fast-forward to the 2000s and we are in Solar Maximum. And the "climate experts" tell us we are all going to burn to a crisp if we don't give all of our money to the UN.
