The attached opinion piece from Newsweek hits many valid points, succinctly expresses the dilemma of the Palestinians and points to the futility and frustration in navigating some sort of peace arrangement.

In a nutshell, unless and until the Pals can speak with one voice (and that voice can speak of peaceful coexistence) the conflict will continue.

Tel Aviv Diary: The tragedy of the Palestinians

Speeches made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday at the United Nations sum up the state of Israeli-Palestinian relations.

Led by Abbas, the Palestinians are too weak to make peace, and Israel is too strong to need to make any concessions to reach peace...

President Anwar Sadat of Egypt understood the psychology of the Israeli people. When he came to Israel and addressed the Knesset, boldly declaring “no more war,” he effectively ended Israeli-Egyptian wars. It took time to negotiate the details, but after that speech, Israelis were willing to withdraw from every inch of the Sinai in return for peace.

If Abbas accepts Netanyahu’s challenge and delivers a speech proclaiming, “We end our state of war with Israel, accept the 1947 Partition Plan with modified borders and will agree to monetary compensation settlement for the refugees,” the conflict would end.

All the Pals need to do is say Israel has a right to exist and we will act civilized.

Very easy.

It is a bit more complex, but that is the beginning.

The author notes that in focusing on what they are told is their past (not that it's real), the Arabs consistently sacrifice their potential future (and that of their progeny). They are victimized by their self-imposed ignorance - common in the Arab/Muslim Mideast - the bleating of Jew-hating scum, and loony-leftists who exhort them to toss a few more generations of their kids into their hopeless war against the Joooo.

Netanyahu's old adage ... “If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more ‎violence. If the Jews put ‎down their weapons ‎today, there would be no more Israel'‎” is clearly spot on.

But then will the Palis act civilized.? Do they even know how?

It's just the boys in ISIS-lite having some islamo-fun.

Amnesty report says Hamas committed war crimes against Palestinians

Amnesty alleges Hamas war crimes against Palestinians - CNN.com

CNN)Abductions. Beatings. Torture. Summary executions of political opponents.
These are among the allegations made Wednesday against the Palestinian group Hamas in a damning new report by the international human rights watchdog Amnesty International.

During last year's Gaza conflict, which took place in July and August, Hamas used the chaos to settle scores and carry out "horrific abuses . . . some of which amount to war crimes" against fellow Palestinians, said Philip Luther, director of the Middle East and North Africa program at Amnesty International.

No, it is not complex. Not having the desire to murder people just because they are different than you is not a complex issue.

But then will the Palis act civilized.? Do they even know how?

Factions fear the people if they make peace or are so drunk on the propaganda they really don't know the reality, yet the vast majority of those I knew hate the stailmate

When they have been told for generations that Israel is satan and must be destroyed, it is hard to let go of that idea.

People interact with Israelis everyday and know for the most part that peace is possible. Without the hate, the factions loose their reason for being, and their power.

With focus outward, they governing parties don't have to look inward at their own culpability or actually solve the problems of running a state and answering to the people.

For Israel, life goes on despite the violence. For the palestinians, their life was the violence for so long, to remove it would be like cutting off half their limbs and learning how to function again.

Of course peace is possible but it will go much faster and easier of the palestinians (state and people) work with Israel instead of against it. They need good moral support and advice from outside to help teach them step by step.

This is not a hand shake and lets pick up the tools and start building.

They need to have their hand held but they can learn.

Most do not wake in the morning and say they want to hate Israel or kill Israelis. Most wake and want to go to work, get though the day and care for their family..............like 99% of the people on the earth.

When you have been told your whole life that Israel is to blame for "everything" you don't take responsibility for your on actions. That will be the hard part.

Most are capable of being good people, they are just people. I've always had hope for them and peace. Some days keeping that hope is harder, the up hill is more like climbing a cliff, a vertical smooth cliff.

Personally I believe there is no hope whatsoever left among the present generation of Israeli's & Palestinians. Any hope for a lasting peace resides with the children & grand children, And how do Palestinian children ever forget the likes of Farfur for their teacher.

But then will the Palis act civilized.? Do they even know how?
Factions fear the people if they make peace or are so drunk on the propaganda they really don't know the reality, yet the vast majority of those I knew hate the stalemate...

That last line is true of most I know on both sides of the conflict. Israelis have proven ready, willing and able to make peace with any neighbor who wants it and many (or even most) Pals have lucid moments when they want it. Unfortunately they also have too many moments (and enough eager Jihadists) when they don't. In recent years a growing number of Pals have recognized they are and always have been used as cannon fodder by both their own leadership and the outside players (like the "pro-Pal" cabal here) who promote the "War Against the Joooos."

When they have been told for generations that Israel is satan and must be destroyed, it is hard to let go of that idea. People interact with Israelis everyday and know for the most part that peace is possible. Without the hate, the factions loose their reason for being, and their power...

Those factions within the territories cling desperately to their little fiefdoms despite the havoc and carnage that results. Those who feed those poor people half-truths, twisted truths, and outright fabrications in order to prolong the conflict are the true cause of the Pal's decades of suffering.

With focus outward, they governing parties don't have to look inward at their own culpability or actually solve the problems of running a state and answering to the people... For the palestinians, their life was the violence for so long, to remove it would be like cutting off half their limbs and learning how to function again.

Indeed, Pal "leadership" and their international cheer-leading cabal have conspired - albeit mostly indirectly - to serve their own insidious agendas (kill the Joooos) at the expense of generations of Arab/Muslim Palestinians. It won't be east but the Pals can relearn peaceful coexistence with their neighbors once they accept the fact that they have been useful pawns of evil players and reject that role in favor of a more positive future for their kids.

Of course peace is possible but it will go much faster and easier of the palestinians (state and people) work with Israel instead of against it. They need good moral support and advice from outside to help teach them step by step...

Which brings us back to the idea that the international community - particularly those who currently foment the conflict - will have to invest their time, skills and cash to transition the Pals from cannon fodder (in their "War Against the Jooos) to peaceful, productive members of the human race. I have little belief that their keyboard warriors here will be of any use in that process but many of the seemingly well-intentioned countries that now line up against Israel will be called upon and some may stand and deliver (I hope).

They need to have their hand held but they can learn. Most do not wake in the morning and say they want to hate Israel or kill Israelis. Most wake and want to go to work, get though the day and care for their family..............like 99% of the people on the earth...

I don't know that 99% of the planet's people have peaceful, productive agendas - just consider how many are anarchists - but I do believe the territories (and the Arab/Muslim World in general) have way more than their share of Jihadists. I also believe they can and will have their "hands held" in an effort to give them a leg up and to insure the end of the conflict and to inject a good dose of hope for the Pal's future.

History exams for 53 million Russian kids were cancelled in 1988 following the dissolution of the USSR because so much of what they were taught was outright BS. The message to those kids? Forget what we taught for the past 75 years ... it was LIES and while many older comrades could not accept the truth about their "Worker's Paradise," most of the kids got the message.

If the Russians could reboot 53 million, the Pals can do the same for their kids.

Honestly, I don't believe the Pals are capable. If we look across the globe with both a historical and a more modern view, co-existence with Islam has been more an uneasy armistice, or more accurately, a Hudna while moslems regroup and re-arm. While western civilization has moved beyond the relics of theocratic totalitarianism (with horrific backslides, of course), Islamist ideology remains in its primitive, angry and largely self-destructive form as it was 1,400 years ago.

It is pretty remarkable to witness the modern, technological marvel of Israel amidst the disasters of ISIS, almost too many Islamic terrorist franchises to count and so much of the Islamist Middle East barely using indoor plumbing.

aris2chat, et al,

Like most of the top Leaders throughout the Middle East, they are all worth billions. In fact, would it surprise you that Former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki acquired wealth three time that of President Obama.

Hamas's Khaled Mashal is stepping down
(COMMENT)

Depending on how you count and who you listen to, Khaled Mashal is worth upwards of $2.5 Billion dollars. Mahmoud Abbas is only worth $80M - $100 Million.

Being a terrorist leader is pretty lucrative.

Most Respectfully,

There will be peace when the itinerant Arab Muslims are properly sorted by whatever powers that be exactly in accordance with the geneva conventions.

Throw the bums out

Let the peaceful ones stay if they so chose.

But under the conventions Israel has every right to REPATRIATE "ALL" hostiles, suspected hostiles or any who are or are suspected of aiding hostiles.

Israel is only responsible for their safe passage to the nearest exit point and is NOT responsible for their final destination.
