It just hit me today. When Biden was in office and his policies caused high prices the left didn’t blame Biden. They claimed it was greedy companies price gouging.

Now we have Trump enacting tariffs and companies are saying that their prices are going to be going up and yet the left blame Trump and we don’t hear one word from the left about greedy companies price gouging. I guess the left don’t think companies price gouge after all, unless it is under democrat rule.

If the left didn’t have hypocrisy they wouldn’t have anything.

Trump tariffs will raise prices unless companies were price gouging and don't raise prices to make up for the increased tax on imported goods.

Ten out of eleven recessions began under a Republican administration.

Companies were price gouging. They always do. Prices are "sticky upwards". It is part of what drives inflation.

Not sure I see the connection between price gouging and tariffs. With or without a tariff, individual domestic companies set their prices and Trump has nothing to do with that. If their prices are too high then consumers won't buy their stuff, or at least not as much. Price gouging has to do with a limited supply of a particular product; tariffs are all about reducing demand for imported stuff by raising the price, right? That isn't price gouging, that's gov't intervention into the marketplace. Two different things IMHO.

At the end of the pandemic prices increased. Inflation went up. BECAUSE both Trump and Biden pumped trillions into the economy (necessarily) and because supply chain issues fucked things up.

On TOP of that corps tacked on a little more. In some cases to recoup losses incurred during Covid and in some cases to boost profits.

There wasn’t much we could do about the money that had already been pumped into the economy but wait for it to shake out… and it did. Supply chain issues were dealt with. And yeah… we called out corps jacking up prices on top of all that.

Now Trump is giving corps the excuse to jack up prices AGAIN. Some because their prices are going up. Some just taking advantage of the situation.

What’s different? What occurred in 2020 was beyond our control. It was a pandemic

What Trump is doing now is completely unnecessary. There is no need and no reason for this

Totally different situations. Biden didn’t enact blanket worldwide tariffs. Also, Trump once again shows his weakness by backing off the the reported 145% tariff on China!

And yet inflation continues to drop month by month. Prices aren't coming down much if any yet, but they don't seem to be going up either. The media/Democrats continue to use soft economic data to tell us all that the sky is falling but when the hard data comes in, the economic numbers are pretty darn solid.

No serious economist is predicting a recession this year. There is a lot of difference of opinion whether we've hit bottom on the market sell off yet but we are sure having a nice rally yesterday and today.

Trump does need to turn this around a bit more for the House and Senate to keep GOP majorities, but all in all everything is looking pretty good.

If the tariffs have the intended effect within a reasonable period, everything will most likely look really really good.
