Tariff ruling.

I'm not sure this is right but.........

In a statement, Scott Lincicome, a vice president at the Cato Institute’s Center for Trade Policy Studies, who has been a leading voice among the U.S. conservative opposition to tariffs said, ā€œThe court’s decision is welcome news for American importers, the United States economy, and the rule of law, but there’s much more work to be done.ā€ He added that ā€œmost immediately, the federal government must refund the tens of billions of dollars in customs duties that it illegally collected from American companies pursuant to an ā€˜IEEPA tariff authority’ it never actually had.ā€

I’ve always said that the SCOTUS has a way of moderating itself. That being said, anyone with two working brain cells would question some of the rulings. I don’t see how the government can force you to buy insurance (as they did with the ACA which was upheld by the court) any more than they can say that money=speech as was upheld by the court.
Nobody thinks the court gets it right 100% of the time.

The reasoning behind this decision is the same as when they struck down Biden's college debt forgiveness. Presidents can't use or rather misuse vaguely worded emergency powers in laws to assume vast powers to tax or spend by themselves. That's what congress is for.

The remedy is to get a full refund.

The political reality is that few if any are going to ask for a penny in compensation. Why? Because for the next 3 years, these companies need to get permission to breathe from the government. Look at how the DOJ turned CBS inside out because of a stand-up comic.

Paramount (if they were an importer) isn’t going to get back in the ring with the feds. I doubt any of these companies want to get on the blob’s bad-side or their next M&A will be delayed.
Yeah, that's true. You can't hurt his feelings, or you become a target.

They'll probably end up thanking him for not raping them any more.

Suddenly the SCOTUS isn’t so bad. Don’t worry, the next time it rules against progressive interests, they’ll demonize it as a radical conservative court that’s against democracy

How can they be? If that were the case the Court should have frozen Trump's ability, legislated by Congress from the start. Instead the Court did nothing and created a problem they have no Constitutional authority to remedy. Totally ridiculous.

I don't have the arguments on this. Looking for those who's job it is to comment on it.

Any ruling that gives the King of Debt less control over American businesses and the economy is a huge positive.

Yes, it was the exact same type of ruling.

Many U.S. importers have kept meticulous records in anticipation of submitting those requests if a court ruling allowed them to pursue tariff refunds. The consulting firm Capital Economics estimates that those refund requests could total as much as $120 billion. So, will consumers see any of that money, given that they ultimately paid a significant portion of it? Probably not. Companies are not likely to issue refunds, or lower prices. But they may hold off on prices increases that they had planned for this year, especially if they are not in a sector that is likely to fall under any new tariffs the White House might impose.

Gee....

Wasn't this the SCOTUS that was put in place by Trump to kiss his backside.

To all of you who said that....shove your computers sideways.

These are independent judges who were chosen to protect us as an equal part of the separation and balance of powers.

If these were Biden appointees, they'd be drooling all over themselves.

Jackson deserves to be removed. She's a disaster.

The remedy is to STFU.
