Here is a pretty good reason. A High Speed Rail can only be built if it's put on a National Level. And then Nationally funded. That means that it has to be done at a Federal Level. It's expensive and intensive. ALL the successful high speed rails are Nationally supported and always will be. Or at least until they get the point of reach self sufficiency. Until the Feds pony up with a whole bunch of billions of bucks on a yearly basis, there just won't be a high speed rail.

Until the Feds pony up with a whole bunch of billions of bucks on a yearly basis, there just won't be a high speed rail.

As the article points out, Taiwan’s economy is 1/4 that of California.

California has an economy equal to the 7th largest nation. Taiwan doesn't.

And no, Kentucky shouldn't have to pay for a train that only benefits California.

My state has been controlled by democrats much longer than California.

We are building light rail right now. The project will be completed in a couple years.

I agree that it should be done on the national level but it's not required.

My state is doing it right now. We aren't getting any federal dollars for it. We voted to impose new taxes on property and vehicles to pay for it.

The construction started over a year ago. It's going very well. It should be finished in a couple of years.

Republicans have not had any power in my state since the mid 80s. Which means we have quietly spent the last few decades doing things that the rest of the nation only dreams of doing.

If you have the ballot initiative in your state and it's not controlled by those who believe taxes are evil, you too can have the 21st century state just like my state. You don't need to wait for politicians in your state. The people can do it themselves if you have the ballot initiative.

You do need to reduce conservative power to it's barest minimum so they can't sabotage progress to move your state into the 21st century.

Correction. My state has already put in one light rail line.

We started it at the end of the bush boy years. It's been completed for along time. It goes from downtown to the airport.

It's been very successful. To the point that we voted to impose new taxes on our property and vehicles to pay for a much bigger light rail system. That tax isn't imposed on the whole state. Just the counties that the light rail is being built.

There were no federal dollars involved for the first one and there are no federal dollars involved with the system we are building now.
