Supreme Court limits key provision of the landmark Voting Rights Act

The section still exist. You didnr read the opinion you idiot

The map that got knocked down was created by racist gerrymandering

What part of that don’t you get?
You can't really be this slow.

  • "Dead Letter" Law: Kagan stated the ruling renders Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which combats discriminatory voting maps, "all but a dead letter".
  • "Demolition" of Rights: She argued the decision marks a return to eras of minority voter disenfranchisement by allowing states to "crack" minority voters out of the electoral process.

There is a reason she’s considered one of the dumbest justices

Cause she’s wrong

The map that was ruled illegal was created in volation of that section because it specifically created a minority-majority district

I think sometimes that maybe black people and white people are getting a little tired of all this posturing and just want to get along and move forward, but a few on each side are benefiting from the race hustling. According to Whoopie, the evil white devils are still shooting and using dogs at the polls. People are influenced by this shit and I do believe it's a remedy for any failures in life. I also it generates a false sense of twisted duty in young people that find they are "graduating" from school and can't spell cat. It is also creating a self-loathing in white people that still have a sense of guilt that is spewed by the media. Our native population is shrinking while we fight over nothing while the Reconquistas are literally ******* us out of our country. This racist idiot says that you are engaging in racial discrimination by not creating voting districts according to race.

So it’s discrimination to not discriminate. WTF?

Today they could be computer generated only to take the number of people into account. Nothing more.

Not that I disagree with you, but that proposal would actually give Democrats an advantage. Using a computer would definitely take the bias out of it however, you have areas that are majority black that would have their own districts. Given the fact that Black people overwhelmingly vote Democrat this could give Democrats an advantage. And while there would also be majority, white districts, because white people generally vote Republican and democrat across the board there would be no inherit advantage

I have no idea. I'm not seeing how it gives anyone an advantage and it is what it is.

The idea was never about party anyway. It was simply about making districts as even as possible as far as population goes.

Silver lining is Bad News for the racists
.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday sharply weakened a key provision of the landmark Voting Rights Act, a ruling that limits the consideration of race in drawing voting maps and could usher in Republican gains in the House.

The decision is expected to touch off a scramble by Republicans to redraw majority-minority districts, especially in the South. New districts could shift the balance of power in Congress by imperiling the reelection prospects of some Black Democrats, possibly as soon as November’s midterms in some instances. Minority representatives in state legislatures and local offices could also be redistricted out.

About darn time.....The odd districts in red states that were gerrymandered due to fed "racial" edicts can now be brought back in line.

I wonder how many seats this will cost the dems?
Will the voting rights ruling really be a disaster for Democrats - Opinion by Benjamin Hart

I think people are minimizing the importance of it not being struck down, and they shouldn’t, because the limits on intentional discrimination really are intact. And I do think that’s important and we shouldn’t lose sight of it. It certainly becomes much harder to go beyond that, and I understand why people are upset, but there really is an important distinction between this and saying, “Okay, you can intentionally discriminate.”

While the court did not specifically rule out racially drawn districts, they significantly watered down any future opportunities to challenge districts on the basis of race. This means states that have had majority black VRA districts for decades will now be able to essentially draw them out unless it can be conclusively proven they are intentionally discriminating, which could be hard to do if they are keeping districts compact and within reasonable borders.

The decision cuts against 40 years of understanding that Congress wrote the VRA provision in question to push back not just on intentional racial discriminatory, but on redistricting plans that had the effect of discrimination, even if intentional discrimination couldn’t be proven.

Justice Samuel Alito wrote that VRA plaintiffs could only succeed “when the circumstances give rise to a strong inference that intentional discrimination occurred.”

That will make VRA redistricting cases “all but impossible to win,” said Omar Noureldin, senior vice president of the policy & litigation department of the voting rights group Common Cause.

Things will settle down in the courts, but it will stay in media hysteria territory as it's a great vehicle for fundraising

"Looking even farther ahead — and this may be me wish-casting — but if Democrats control the presidency, the Senate, and the House by 2029, they could end the filibuster and pass a gerrymander ban that would cancel this all out, right?
Yeah, because what would happen with a federal gerrymandering ban is you would take politics off the table as legitimate redistricting criteria, and all of a sudden the Voting Rights Act comes running back in at full force because you’ve now controlled for politics everywhere. And we’re back to square one."

I understand why the racist on here are cheering, but a black woman cheering that they have gutted one of the most important pieces of Law to black folks in this country just blows me away. It created a district that was sure to give black folks EQUAL representation, now we will not have that. This ruling allows racism in voting to go unchecked.

Racial gerrymandering is illegal

Political gerrymandering isn’t

Not that hard
<~~~~~~~~~~>
According to Democrats that is correct...
Democrats have never relinquished their use of racism, segregation and Eugenics against those they abhor and hate.

Sure, but political gerrymandering has gone on for a long time and it will go on for a long time.

We all know it’s about politics, that’s no secret.

Sounds like a good decision to me. That law basically required racial gerrymandering.

Translation: The government should only do the bidding for blacks.

If you want equal representation, then you should advocate splitting the country. Otherwise, the majority voice gets to decide.
