Back when FDR attempted it, his own party was appalled by it and flat out rejected it as a power grab.

Today though, democrats have no such reservations as they worship the very image of FDR every chance they get.

President in a wheelchair, crippled the whole country with the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Federal Firearms Act of 1938, almost lost the Second World War for us. Then we did lose Vietnam when Nixon was blackmailed out of office, JFK's sister was lobotomized, and LBJ railroaded the Gun Control Act of 1968 through a complicit Congress after Lee Harvey Oswald, honorable Marine Corps veteran, shot and killed him.
