There is no need to replace the Department of Education. It is redundant and not allowed by the Tenth Amendment. Eliminate it and let the states and localities handle things like they did for over two hundred years. It’s part of the fraud, waste and abuse that Trump got elected to eliminate.

So far, Trump's plan is to destroy but like he promised to do in his first administration, which was to get a better health program but never did, that is what is happening now. Education in the US was the job of States and local school boards up until the Carter Presidency. It will now go back to the States and local school boards...the people who know best what their local students need to get a good education.

What could happen is the liberal states will devote time and resources to “oppressed black people,” our awful racist country, there’s 54 genders, children should go to drag shows, etc., etc., - and they’ll end up like Baltimore, where no student scored proficient in math.

The conservative states, who don’t buy into that stuff and know the importance of strong academic basics, will focus on reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Eventually, as the liberal states see their kids unable to compete, maybe they’ll come around. Until then, parents who care about a good education for their children will carefully choose which state to live in.

In case you hadn't noticed, Lucky...our States are varied. Treating Montana like it's New York is seldom going to be successful.

Wrong, states and municipalities will have programs that work for them, not a one size fits all approach that is aimed at the lowest possible denominator by a set of bureaucrats in D.C..

We've done that through the Department of Education since Carter started it back in the 70's, Lucky! When Jimmy began that Federal Agency our education system was ranked number one in the world...now it's ranked dead last out of the top 40 industrial nations! How do you see that as succeeding?
