A test target missile was launched from an aircraft over Hawaii and was intercepted.
I haven't found photos of the kill, though.

"HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 11, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Missile Defense Agency and a Boeing [NYSE:BA]-led industry team successfully intercepted an intermediate-range ballistic missile in space during the latest test of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense, or GMD, system. The test validated GMD's Capability Increment 6B configuration, which gives the Missile Defense Operators more time, space, and flexibility to intercept ballistic missile threats to the U.S. homeland."

"During the test, a GMD interceptor released a kinetic-force Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle, or EKV, during the rocket booster's second stage of its normally three-stage sequence of flight. The threat-representative target was air launched from the Broad Ocean Area and the interceptor was deployed from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California."

We need this and it has to work, hopefully they can make one that has a 100% intercept likelihood, inbound rockets from North Korea is always a possibility.

"The intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launched by the DPRK on the morning of December 18 can fly on a normal trajectory of more than 15,000 kilometers, which means that it completely "covers" the territory of the United States. This was stated by Japan's Vice Defense Minister Shingo Miyake"

Bloomberg writes that North Korea spends "tens of millions of $ annually" on its nuclear program. Wow.
For such pennies, by capitalist standards, they have produced their own Strategic Missile Forces (reaching America), raised space from scratch (in the process) and are developing hypersonics.
And they overcame hunger while under blockade

The best interception is pre-start interception, they say.
And no, they had intercepcepted an intermediate range missile, not an ICBM.

We have a trillion dollar missile defense system that seems to work while hundreds of thousands of potential enemies are streaming across the southern border every day. Is it the modern definition of idiocy?

I want a reliably secure border as much or more than anyone.

But some illegal crossing the border is not going to be toting a nuclear device.
