People are tearing down art, because they make convenient targets. The amount of talent that goes into creating statues it deserves huge amount of respect. And the politics involved are fleeting. What if Martin Luther King statues are pulled down by irrational mobs, or even Crosses on top of churches? End this insanity, end the mob rule.

Statues are practically always political statements and so is tearing them down. If conservative types had ever cared about a flesh and blood human as much as a cold hunk of bronze perhaps things would have never come to this.

And destroying art has NOTHING to do with politics. It doesn't further anyone's agenda. It hurts us ALL.
Vandalism and pure self indulgent stupidity doesn't help anything or anyone.

"On his album cover ... HE was strapped down to a stone alter being whipping by naked young women ... THAT'S the difference" ...

"Ah ... the line between genius and stupidity is fine one indeed" ...

If you don't like public art, form committees and then get public approval for it's removal. This..this huge anti human anti art act by a minority of irrational hotheads for fleeting and insubstantial reasons, SHAME ON YOU! You want to fight racism? Tearing down statues without public consent is NOT how you fight anything. Its a delusional mob rule idiocy. Stop.

August st. Gardens civil war memorial to black soldiers. The movie "Glory" was based on this.., don't destroy history. Don't destroy things you have connection with or don't understand.

Memorial statues are to art what billboards are to art. Their primary purpose is to say something. What are these statues saying that we, as Americans, still value enough to keep them cluttering up our cities?

No not so much, but thanks for that brilliant insight. So tear down a billboard. Billboards are commercialism, so knock your self out kidd-o. Then that graffiti nonsense over everything. Not exactingly seeing Bernini's Angles here.
