If a new CEO takes charge in a company and multiple employees go public on social media bad-mouthing him/her and vowing to obstruct everything they are trying to accomplish, they SHOULD expect repercussions. I agree, government employment should not depend on allegiance to a person, but the employees should also be expected to support the goals of the company (or government in this case), not actively fight them. It's a matter of degree.

The problem here is only partially that he's just a profoundly damaged, terribly needy person. That's a sad thing, but people with completely different motives -- from the people around him to congressional Republicans to MAGA media opportunists -- are using and enabling him for their own benefit.

Personally, I think we need to understand how much of the country actually does want a strongman-based authoritarian federal government. Those shouts of "freedom" and "liberty" and "strength" and "personal responsibility" are just covers. There is a huge weakness in this country that many of us didn't see before.

That's up to the voters, isn't it? This is one reason why the presidency was not supposed to be determined by the popular vote, to prevent disasters like Joe Biden from happening. The STATES were supposed to elect the president. In fact, the House was supposed to be the one part of government that most directly represented the people, not the Senate, the president or the courts.
