"South Park" airs censored episode after muslim death threat

I'm with you Bill. Bad move by CC. I wonder when the moderate "peace loving" Muslims will come out to denounce the fatwa. I won't hold my breath.

Isn't watching South Park against their religion? Now that they've seen Muhammad disrespected won't they lose a few virgins or something?

Hypocrites.

Anyone that actually watched both episodes (it was a two parter) would know that Comedy Central stepped in and censored the shit out of the second episode, which aired last night. They even bleeped out every mention of Muhammed, which they didn't in the first episode.

I've seen every episode of all 13 seasons. I know SP pretty well, own all 13 DVDs and watch them all the time (favorite show).

The 2nd half of that episode went out of it's way to constantly say the word Muhammed repeatedly, and yes, it was censored. But it's easy to see, compared to their other episodes, that this censored word was preplanned. Like the episode where they vowed to say "fuck" on cable TV. They said it like 100 times in one episode, just to make the point. The censored Muhammed word was spoken MANY times, on purpose, so I think it's been planned the whole time that the 2nd episode would be like this. It's a brilliant PR stunt by those guys. Stir the pot, create a buzz, give everyone a week to make threats or wonder if they'll actually show Muhammed, then pull this censorship prank.

Are probably right.

I heard an interview the other day, I think it was on PBR with Matt and Trey. They probably planned the whole thing to make a point. I also love the fact comedy central thought they could make the show without them, how long did that last?

Why do they need to denouce anything? If it isn't them making the threats, then it isn't on them to do anything.
YOu and the OP are the ones who are hypocrites.

Probably around the same time idiots like you realize that a blog post isn't a "fatwa." A fatwah is a religious edict issued by a qualified scholar. :cuckoo:

And whats your opinion on a cartoon showing some kind of image that depicts Muhammad? Whats your opinion on Muslims who would go so far as to issue death threats to non muslims, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who create a satire/tv show that pokes fun at christians, jews, athiests, and all other religions/ belief sets? Do you think Comedy Central/Viacom should have run the episode uncensored?

Also want to shout word of disapproval at CC for caving in for Muslim religion. Fuck 'em, your viewers ain't no Muslim. Grow balls.

Well, really, its irrelevant what religion their viewers actually are or arent. If you can have Jesus watching porn, Buddha doing coke, etc etc etc... why cant you even show an image of Muhammad? Muslims cannot do it as per they faith but I sure as fuck can. One of the truly sad observations about the whole thing is that back in 2001 before 9/11 South Park actually had Muhammad in one of the episodes. But in our post 9/11 world we censor people they cannot. I find it sickening that we curb free speech like this in order to appease a group of people.

It wasn't because of 9/11 it was because of the Danish cartoons you know these:

I'd go on about what a big wrong that is but I think South Park all ready covered it in their other 2 parter on Muhammad.

But yeah they did have Muhammad on before 9/11

If it's done out of ignorance, I really don't care. If it's done out of malice, I still don't care very much, but I certainly think that the creators of things like that are worthless human beings. In this case, I agree with Dude that the whole thing was a publicity stunt. South Park has sucked hard for the past few seasons.

I'm apathetic, especially since the person who issued the "threat" in this case was some random nobody on the internet. The media, of course, decided to make a huge deal out of nothing in lieu of providing us with information of consequence. Now idiots across America are up in arms as if the entire Islamic religion threatened to rain holy hell on the creators of some lame-ass cartoon show.

I'd rather that they not be killed simply because of the backlash that such an incident would precipitate. If they keeled over and died of natural causes, I wouldn't shed a tear.

Do you think Comedy Central/Viacom should have run the episode uncensored?
I don't have an opinion on that matter.

I have to agree with you here. It was two assholes that made the threat, not Muslims in general. And South Park has been making fun of Muslims for years without a meltdown in Islamic circles.

I suppose if the entire Muslim world is to be judged by what two boneheads do then it is fair to judge tea partiers on the idiots in their midst.

Honestly, it wouldn't have been a huge deal if the episode had been aired without all of this publicity. When you combine attention-whoring cartoonists with morons on the internet and a sensationalistic news media, though, things like this tend to end in a shitstorm.

The only way to get justice from South Park is this:

South Park must do an episode where Muhammed is shown. Pick a plot, whatever it may be, but show him. And Muhammed must take the form of pork. He must be a walking, talking PIG. And he must begin to explain that he forbids the eating of pork because as a young prophet he feared being eaten, so he forbade it and was not eaten, hence the Islamic ban on eating pork.

Muhammed portrayed as a pig is the only justice for the cartoon!!!

OP...

A couple of weeks back Terri Gross of NPR's "Fresh Air" fame interviewed the boys and they were talking about how the network censored their upcoming 200th episode.

Also, they did win an Emmy...which I was very pleased to find out.

That show is so awesome its not funny...well...its not funny...its INSANELY funny. Truly hilarious...and it still is...even now.

Also, they really go out of their way to be apolitical...the are TRULY an equal opportunity offender.

What's not to love?

On a side note...I'd like to see those posting about "lacking balls" go and create a personal blog somewhere and post their own mock-ups of Muhammed and find out what happens to them.

Well considering their blogs probably won't be seen by as many as South Park... probably nothing.

It's not Mat and Trey who are punking out, its the network. They tried to show Mohammed last time and the network canned the part of the episode. This time they did a workaround by mentioning him, but hiding him in a bear suit.

Still pissing off the extremists.

actually, they did the pretend censored episode to make fun of the nutters... if the O/P actually knew what she was talking about, she'd have known that.
Definitely their style

Except it's not a Muslim ban

it was inherited from Leviticus

The Reason I love South Park is exactly this reason..

They Offend everybody.. Democrats, Republicans, Muslims, Christians, Mormons, Catholics, Hilary Clinton ;) and even Barbara Streisand, pretty much the whole bunch.

They're both Libertarians which i found interesting when I read their Wikipedia Page..

But anyway.. I love the show, won't stop watching it. Can't wait for next week.

South Park jumped the shark a loooooooong time ago.....Doing stuff like this is about the only way Parker and Stone have left to draw any attention anymore.

Jumped the shark?

Here is another example of someone who doesn't watch South Park. The whole point of the show is 'jumping the shark'.
