You have it backwards.Economics EXACTLY why fossil fuels going nowhere for a long, long time.
Fossil fuels are the energy of choice ONLY where electricity is not a viable option. That is the ECONOMICS. Obviously electricity has been used for mass transportation for over 100 years and for the energy needs of homes, factories and nearly every business. Exxon is transitioning over to renewables to power their refineries. So really, the days of fossil fuels for electricity generation is numberEd.
Get real.
Rail, ocean vessels , aviation and long haul are hold outs, with transition Nat gas and other options slowly replacing oil.
As THE SUPPLIES OF FOSSIL FUELS dwindles, it gets increasingly expensive. Its not nearly so much with renewables.
The economics demand renewables, not fossil fuels. Even the fossil fuel companies get it.
