The heart and soul of those countries is the private sector economy that finances the pensions, healthcare, infrastructure, and everything else. North Korea. Cuba. A relatively homogenous society is necessary for socialism to work well. If every-damned-thing is to be decided by majority rule, it's best if everyone is on the same page. That's why socialism in the US will be radically different than Sweden (or whichever socialist-lite poster child is in vogue). It will get ugly. In a nation as diverse as the US, live and let live is the only thing that works.
