The end goal of democratic socialism is a socialist economy. I think you may be confusing this with Social Democracy. There are multiple social democratic parties in Europe, and they support capitalist economies.Another name for Democratic Socialism is Regulated Capitalism....
Lets be clear, the Democrats would be a Centre Right party in Germany... Germany has run a surplus for 8 out of the last 10 years, how is that for fiscal conservatism?
No one(or extremely little) in US wants a Venezuela or a North Korea type government... Just as many (which is everyone) wants a Somalia...
Democratic socialist parties also exist in Europe, but they are very much socialists in terms of their desires for the economy.
