Socialism Destroyed His Country, Venezuela — Here's His Message to Americans

Another name for Democratic Socialism is Regulated Capitalism....

Lets be clear, the Democrats would be a Centre Right party in Germany... Germany has run a surplus for 8 out of the last 10 years, how is that for fiscal conservatism?

No one(or extremely little) in US wants a Venezuela or a North Korea type government... Just as many (which is everyone) wants a Somalia...
The end goal of democratic socialism is a socialist economy. I think you may be confusing this with Social Democracy. There are multiple social democratic parties in Europe, and they support capitalist economies.

Democratic socialist parties also exist in Europe, but they are very much socialists in terms of their desires for the economy.

Australia socializes certain amenities but is not a socialism. New Zealand is the same. Most of Europe would not qualify as socialist either, but again, they do socialize certain services.

There's a big difference between socializing something like healthcare vs. socializing all or most of the economy. Even the Nordic countries are not socialist. Sweden is, in some ways, more capitalistic than us.

As far as "autocracy" goes, Trump was authoritarian on very little. He did not force businesses into a vaccine mandate, for example. He was very states rights regarding the pandemic as a whole. By contrast, Biden has been much more authoritarian.
The trade war, boarder control, military spending, etc... increases could be all deemed authoritarian....

Trump had no problem with Government overreach when he was doing it...

As for the pandemic response, that is what states do...

By the way, Biden's mandate won't be as strict as the mandatory vaccine and testing program that is implemented in Fox News....
Have to see the hypocrisy in that?

Crap, got them mixed up again... You're right...

Meant to say social democratic

Exactly. These right wingers really don't know what they are talking about. But they'll repeat it over and over.

I'm not a big fan of Fox in general, so that doesn't surprise me.

I'm not suggesting that Trump was libertarian overall, but if we're using Biden as the reference point, he's not that authoritarian.

Socialism Destroyed His Country, Venezuela — Here's His Message to Americans

10 Dec 2021 ~~ By Douglas Blair

Venezuela used to be a thriving and prosperous Latin American country. Its citizens enjoyed a wonderful quality of life, and immigrants from across the world flocked to its shores to better their situation. All of that changed when socialism took over the Venezuelan government. The once flourishing country quickly became an example for other nations of what happens when socialism is allowed to run rampant. Violent crime skyrocketed, people lost their lives and livelihoods, and neighbors began to view each other as rivals for ever diminishing resources. Venezuela had become hell on earth. Now many Americans, blissfully ignorant of the ravages of socialism, want to bring it to the United States.

Daniel Di Martino is amazing, it's a pleasure to hear such wisdom coming from a young man who has had firsthand experience in such a dystopian world and shows such belief in America. He speaks from firsthand knowledge of what he has seen in a country that was once the jewel of South America.
Venezuela has one of the largest known oil reserves in the world and can’t even get it out of the ground now, let alone refine it. Thanks to Chavez and now Maduro they turned Venezuela into a poverty-stricken country unable to support itself.
Progressive Marxist/DSA Democrat Leftists tell us what social programs are implemented. They consider the use of force required to make those who create value to produce for the Collective just as Maduro tells the people of Venezuela.
We see this happening under the 'Bai Dung' administration with every move this administration has made since January 2021.
This is what the PM/DSA Democratic Party wants for America. They think that they will be in power and create their dystopian utopia with no worries with the support of the Quisling Media Complex is backing them.
They continue to refuse to recognize the failures of Marxist Socialism and not having learned from History.
Hugo Chavez was the turning point for Venezuela, he was the 'Trojan Horse' for the easily influenced majority of Venezuela. Is Joey Xi being used as the 'Trojan Horse' of the PM/DSA Democrat Left or is he a willing participant?
Hugo had charisma, intensity and oratory skills, sort of like Castro in Cuba, Mussolini in Italy or Obama in America.

This is so sick. What is happening in Venezuela is not socialism. It is corruption on the highest order combined with a Fascist dictatorship. A fascist dictatorship is what the US is heading for with right wing Trump fascists attempting to steal elections.

The Democrats are not socialists. No one is advocating socialism. This is typical Republicanism. Everything we don't like is either socialism or communism. Yet allowing the rich and powerful to get richer and more powerful is okay. That is the danger to this country. Not fake socialism.

Actually, Venezuela is an example of socialism. By definition, state control of most or all industry in a country is socialism. You could argue that it has elements of fascism as well, but the 2 are not mutually exclusive. The Nazi regime was a combination of the 2.

Fascism is more accurately defined as collusion between government and industry. In that respect, the US has been a fascism for a long time. A lot of the world is fascist in fact. However, there are degrees of fascism. We haven't reached the level of fascism that the Nazis had, but we've been headed in that trajectory since long before Trump. So has most of the West in general. So has much of the non-West.

I'm not defending socialism. I am taking exception to the description of Venezuela being a thriving country before socialism came along. It was not. Income inequality was appalling. While the lapdogs of the multinationals lived the good life everyone else was scratching along. If the guy in the article saw life there as "thriving" he was obviously with the kleptocracy.

During the 1970s, Venezuela was the richest country in Latin America. With the region’s highest growth rates and the lowest levels of inequality, it was also one of the most stable democracies in the Americas. But starting in the early 1980s, things fell apart. The nation endured three coup attempts and one presidential impeachment. Per capita growth plunged, and mass protests became the norm. What happened?
Venezuela Before Chávez: Anatomy of an Economic Collapse, edited by Ricardo Hausmann and Francisco R. Rodríguez, offers some intriguing answers. Pointedly departing from much of the current research (and political discussion) on Venezuela, which focuses on the 14-year presidency (1999–2013) of late President Hugo Chávez, the editors have assembled a distinguished group of experts with the aim not only of exploring, as they put it, the “enigma” of Venezuela’s pre-Chávez collapse, but to explain why some countries go through such turbulence. The unexpected outcomes in Venezuela are used by the authors to challenge hypotheses that rely on big data analysis to explain economic collapse.
While the explanation behind Chávez’ rise to power may draw attention, as Venezuela continues to be rocked by internal conflict following his death, it is the book’s second aim that makes it stand out as an important work of scholarship".

Was it Socialism that destroyed the country, or was it a load of factors, including the US trying to destroy their democracy, incompetent leaders, US interference in the region for more than a hundred years and the like?

You can say "socialism destroyed their country", but the reason they had socialism was because of the nasty nature of US capitalism in the region. So what, they just go for US capitalism so the US sharks can feed off them again?

The mojority of our dollar is spent on bombs, missiles and bullets that can only be used once, then their replacement costs more money each time they are made. Militarism will be the death of this country.
Wrong.

Sweden has a very high social care net... I am simplifying...

They have government provided healthcare, free education for all grades, there poor have a decent standard of living and access to great education programs...
