Every American should know that SS funds are kept separate from other Government revenues, through a fictitious "trust fund." Congress had/has no power to create a compulsory retirement system, so they avoided the Constitutional problem by funding it through a separate "payroll tax," the FICA tax. Technically, Congress may not spend SS funds on anything other than SS, but they have "borrowed" from the excess, which made financial sense. THey are now "repaying" those loans, and the projections for the depletion of the trust fund presume all will be timely repaid.
Should Congress fail to act - which will NOT happen - then SS would revert to a pay-as-you-go proposition, and benefits would be reduced by about 20%. But tax dollars will not go to fund SS; Congress cannot do that.
For those with an interest in recent history, when the Boomers were in their peak earning years, the SS fund was having huge surpluses, and Congress - being the whores that they are - significantly increased benefits and added a disability pension program, funded by the FICA tax, which was and remains bullshit on steroids.
DOGE was working in all of our best interests in trying to purge both traditional SS and SSI rolls of people who have no legal right to be collecting benefits. Further, they saw that the Social Security Administration was both inefficient and overloaded with staff, and they have tried to address these problems, with NOBODY's benefits being threatened by any of it.
The political Left, which caters to the low-IQ component of the voting population keeps telling "us" that DOGE and the Republicans are threatening your retirement benefits. They are lying their asses off, as usual.
Don't worry; be happy.
