The problem with gangs in the big cities is that they offer a surrogate "family" for kids. It gives them a sense of belonging that they might be missing from home. There is that but then also the $$$$ which seems to come easy.

The community doesnt want to turn on the gang members also because they are still peoples kids and as far as their mothers and other families are concerned they see them always as their babies... they are still good kids.. up until they kill someone or put someone in the hospital, but thats when the denial and blaming someone else happens.
