So, you like McDonalds fries do you?

Coke and Pepsi changed their original recipes back in the 80s. They changed from the actual natural flavorings to artificial ones to "save money" so they claim.

Dr Pepper held out the longest. Although they changed from cane sugar to fructose syrup in the 70s, they held out the longest changing their natural flavors for artificial ones till the 90s. Although Dr Pepper claims to have ONLY substituted the few natural flavorings for artificial ones that would have caused the price to be raised to drastically if they had kept them in the recipe.

If I remember correctly, Dr Pepper DID ask their DP fans if they would consider paying a higher price for keeping the original formula. The consensus was NO.......so DP opted to use the artificial alternatives.

It did change the flavor, but ONLY a DP fanatic would have noticed the difference. As I noticed that the New Coke scam was to underhandedly switch the original Coke formula for the artificial one back in the 80s. Apparently original Coke fanatics didn't notice the differnce when New Coke was stopped and switched for the "new Coke Classic". But I certainly did. It was a HUGE difference. More noticable than the new DP formula for sure.
The biggest change these beverage companies made was when they switched from cane sugar to high fructose corn syrup for their sweeteners. As for Coke, don't get me started. They've tried smoke and mirrors changes and attempting to fool their customers more times than I can count. I find it amusing that they still sell the original product in Mexico and S. Africa in glass bottles--LOL and the products are imported to the US. SMH.

My first job as a teen was at Mcdonalds, back in the 80s.

Well, actually I had a grass cutting gig before that but that don't count.

Anyway, as I recall, the fries were very good back then. They tasted good anyway.

These days not so much.

Only fries I like any more are boardwalk fries. They're always a tasty snack.

In the old days, fried in beef tallow.

How old? In 1967, we used vegetable shortening.

McDonald's stopped using beef tallow in their French fries in July 1990. The company switched to 100% vegetable oil to reduce saturated fats following public concern and health campaigns regarding cholesterol. This change marked the end of the original, distinctively flavored fries that were fried in a mix of tallow and oil.

I worked for McDs in 1967 in Phoenix AZ and filled the fryers and prepared 200 lbs of fresh potatoes for fries. I have scraped VEGETABLE SHORTENING out of the boxes more times than I care to count. IDK where your info came from, but it wasn't true in the McDs I worked in.

Acutally, thats true. Not just of McDs, but all other fast food places as well.

But in the past couple of years, it is said that they are switching back to a beef tallow mixture, as it makes better tasting and longer lasting fries. I still won't eat the toxic sticks of pesticide though.
