So, is the left denouncing Obama's "unlawful" war in Libya?

Well I for one don't approve of the US involvement in the Libyan civil war. I think we're probably killing more civilians with our bombs than Gaddafi would have.

well I fore one don't care what you approve of , and you assumptions are without fact as most that hate Obama

America is the chief facilitator and benefactor of global capitalism. The military's job is to stabilize global markets on behalf of the transnationals that own government.

What do I mean by stabilize?

Walmart and Exxon make their money on products and labor that come from dangerous places. If these places become unstable - as they so often do - money is lost, economies are ruined. Put simply, America cannot afford for (say) the Straight of Hormuz to be shut down by terrorists. Therefore, we require a massive military umbrella - an empire of bases - to counter political instability.

AGAIN: Everything from Walmart to American clothing brands depend on ultra cheap resources & labor. Cheap labor increases the profits of shareholders, which is the point of capitalism. I'm talking about labor so cheap that it could only be maintained in places that lack human rights and essential human freedoms. How do you repress whole populations? How do you create the conditions for ultra cheap labor? You support a network of ruthless dictators, from Pinochet to the Shaw to Hussein and Gaddafi: all supported by the US Government until they became unmanageable. That's the problem with ruthless dictators. They're good at repressing their populations so US interests can usurp their resources, but those same useful dictators can sometimes go too far - Hussein and Gadaffi being the most recent examples).

Do talk radio republicans know how much money & weapons the US Government -- under both parties -- has given to Libya? Do they know how much support Reagan/HWB gave to Hussein in the 80s when he was gassing his own people? Do they know why Reagan and Bush 41 poured so much money and weapons into Iraq, or Iran? Do they know why Reagan removed Hussein's Iraq from the official list of terrorist nations? Do they know how deeply the American lifestyle is maintained by labor and resources that come from "bad" places, requiring arrangements with bad people? Do they understand that the American Dream is built from Chinese credit & terrorist crude? Do they understand that America's largest retailer could not function without the spectacular contribution of Chinese tyrants? Do they understand that talk of "freedom" and "free markets" is a sick joke?

Answer: no. Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh never talk about how Washington manages the global system. They don't explain that because the oil comes from a bad place, sometimes we have to get in bed with bad people. They just speak in cliches about how "Freedom is on the march". They don't even know how much oil is produced in Libya, or the other vital resources we get from Northern Africa. This makes talk radio and FOX news a dangerous farce, because they are raising a generation of truly ignorant morons who simply don't understand how the capitalist engine gets fed. [America has always protected the women, children, and republicans from learning about the evil that men must do in the outlying colonies]

The OP misses something fundamental. He thinks that the occupant of the White House has influence over the current system of military globalization - which is run on behalf of the corporate elite who fund elections and own both parties. Obama and Bush are mere reflexes.

Is Obama a hypocrite? Yes, by definition, because he is a politician. Democrats who oppose war are like Republicans who oppose spending: they are lying to get elected, so that they can get hold of the Big ATM and hand out money to the corporations who put them in office.
"Operation Libya" is part of a five year, 7 country "Just War" heist that Wesley Clark mentions in his book Winning Modern Wars.

"'in the Pentagon in November 2001, one of the senior military staff officers had time for a chat. Yes, we were still on track for going against Iraq, he said.

"But there was more.

"This was being discussed as part of a five-year campaign plan, he said, and there were a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Sudan.... (Wesley Clark, Winning Modern Wars, p. 130)."

The broad strokes include gaining control and corporate ownership of more than 60% of the world's reserves of oil and natural gas, including oil and gas pipleines.

And it doesn't depend on which party controls the White House or the Congress. Corporations acting through Wall Street set the agenda, and Republicans AND Democrats and the Pentagon bow and scrape before those who fund their campaigns...and retirements.

Just wait until Gaddafi moves ground troop into the cities occupied by the rebels. Bombs will be innefective We'll have to send ground troops in or sit back and watch the slaughter

obama's bay of pigs, gulf of tonkin. secretary of war robert gates says he doesn't know when it will end. might be time to bring rumsfeld back

what if they gave a war and nobody came. this is the spin the wheel war, no one is sure who's in charge, or other details.

Interesting conspiracy theory. Gain a controlling share of the oil industry through war.

It takes oil to feed a hungry world.

Why aren't they rushing over to Libya to help poor ole Gaddafi out? Where are those Lefty Winger "Human Shields" in Libya? Not seeing that this time around huh? Gee i wonder why? Could it have something to do with a 'D' doing the bombing this time around? I'll let you decide that for yourself. I know where i stand.

Well, here we go. It's not a war, it's a Kinetic Military Action.

In a briefing on board Air Force One Wednesday, deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes took a crack at an answer. "I think what we are doing is enforcing a resolution that has a very clear set of goals, which is protecting the Libyan people, averting a humanitarian crisis, and setting up a no-fly zone," Rhodes said. "Obviously that involves kinetic military action, particularly on the front end."

Rhodes' words echoed a description by national security adviser Tom Donilon in a briefing with reporters two weeks ago as the administration contemplated action in Libya. "Military steps -- and they can be kinetic and non-kinetic, obviously the full range -- are not the only method by which we and the international community are pressuring Gadhafi," Donilon said.

Well, via the Annointed One, we have gone from a mission of at most a few days to our esteemed Secretary of State who says we should be obligated for no more than a couple of weeks to a representative of the Defense Dept this morning not putting a time limit on it.

And we still don't know what the mission actually is or how we will know that we have accomplished it.

Until i see those "NO WAR FOR OIL!" "IMPEACH OBOMBA!" Protests,i will never give Leftists/Democrats any credibility on issues like this ever again. I'll stay tuned.

Those clowns better get busy buying up tickets to Libya and build a hands across Libya chain for Ghaddafi or I will never taken them seriously again.

Hey Libo.......this whole deal is just another reason for Americans to realize you dont put a far left guy in charge of anything much less make him a Commander in Chief!! Its like slapping a pair of skates on a chick and having her go out and referee a professional hockey game..........or putting a dementia patient in charge of the ward!!!

This Libyan stunt is hysterical..........Im 50 and never seen anything like it in my life. These people cant even tie their shoes. To anybody with half a brain, you realize this is sending one highly fcukked up message to world leaders about the4 fortitude of what was once the United States of America.

With this weenie - limpwristed approach, we ought to have never participated.
