Why have other sources of retirement income if those other sources are just going to result in other retirement income being cut.

Hey, let me save for retirement by putting money way in a 401K, that way when I can retire I can take income from the 401K and then get my SS benefit reduced because I planned for other income.

That makes no sense.

(In which case the retirement model will shift from investing into a 401K which will later count as "income", into non-deferred savings where withdrawls can be made and NOT counted as income.)

Trump plans to eliminate the taxes on SS. This will help those who pay those taxes now, but it will hurt future retirees as it will reduce SS revenues. I have no problem paying the tax as I have other income sources. It is frightening to think that the SS Trust Fund will be depleted in 8 years. From there it will be 'pay as you go' and benefits will likely have to be cut unless a fix is made to maintain the current level of benefits.
