Europe has recovered and more of their defense is being shifted back into their hands.

The Korean War never ended. There is no Peace Treaty signed because the North would have to admit their aggression (started the war) and agree to disarm substantially. What we have is a 72 year old Cease-fire which could blow apart easily and anytime. Fortunately South Korea and possibly Japan are building up strength to carry their share of containing NK.

~ BTW, we had a similar "NO Peace Treaty, Just a Cease-Fire" at end of the first Iraq war. The second one was to preempt Saddam's plans to restart on his terms.

Our presence in the Middle East grew out of blocking Soviet influence and arming the enemies of Israel, an expression of the Cold War. The presence actually goes back more like six decades. Good sign is that some former enemies of Israel aren't that anymore. Down side is that Evil Face of Islam persists and it's better to keep the aggression and fighting over there than over here, take it to the homelands of Islam.

I'd like to avoid "forever wars" but Islam started such 1400 years ago and has continued since. "Wars" happen when force and aggression is resisted with force and defense.
Only two solutions ultimately.
1) Submit to your attacker, surrender and let them have their way with you (which appears to be your policy).
2) Defeat your attacker and destroy their capacity to "rinse and repeat".
