‘Honey bear’: Berkeley student details alleged sexual advances by professor

There is a small "spate" of sexual harassment complaints at UC Berkeley. The world of academe is having a collective attack of the vapors. Female students are being told that they are ATTRACTIVE! And that male professors occasionally REMARK ON THEIR ATTRACTIVENESS! And that other girls are HOMELY!

How do they persevere in the face of these outrages? It is a wonder, is it not?

Last time I checked, UC Berkeley was rated as one of the top universities in the country, if not the world. Their students are, in most cases, the Best of the Best. And most of these Sexual Harassment complaints are coming from Grad Students.

Jesus fucking Christ.

If these enormously talented, academically accomplished Snowflakes don't even have the "balls" to tell a professor to Fuck Off, WHAT IS THE POINT OF EDUCATION? These are not children. These are people in their early-to-mid 20's, and they claim to be so intimidated by the positions of their bosses that they dare not mention their complaints to them.

In one case, a law school student, married with children, who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berkeley undergrad, endured what she considered to be CRIPPLING levels of harassment for years - including the occasional embrace - and never had the gumption to tell the professor to stop it! She made many trips to the various student advocate offices, complained to other people, and ultimately resigned her job (AND SUED THE UNIVERSITY of course) because these instances were so oppressive that HER HEALTH WAS SUFFERING. But she never even mentioned to the supervisor that he was making her uncomfortable.

And when the offending Professor was told about it, he said he had no idea that his behavior was any problem - and there is no reason to suppose he was lying. (Both the professor and the employee/student are Indian (India)).

Really, what is the point of education if these superior examples of academic competency lack the intelligence, self confidence and balls to even mention to their bosses that certain behavior is unacceptable?

They should be suing this fine university for a REFUND. They haven't learned the first thing about LIFE!

I thought snowflakes were survivors of abortion.

Why are you so intent on protecting people in a position of authority from being held responsible for their bad behavior?

They shouldnt have to tell people to fuck off. The professors job is to teach, not check out someone 20-30 years their jr.

The point is not that boorish behavior is insignificant or should not be dealt with. The point is that these students are of superior intelligence, and have been through at least four years of intensive and demanding college education. It has been drummed into their heads that there are a dozen university resources whose whole existence is the protection of students from various kinds of real and imaginary harms.

Is it asking too much that they at least mention to the offending professors that they find the behavior offensive? In most of these cases, the first time the supervisor hears about the problem is LONG AFTER a complaint or multiple formal complaints have been filed. It is ridiculous.

Could be asking too much. Not everyone is built up the same way. Some people are assertive and others are not.

While the prof was certainly out of line, what's happened to women in this country? I can imagine any one of my 5 sisters in the same situation, he'd have been told once to keep his hands off, the second time he'd have been spitting teeth.
