If you just flip a switch from ON to OFF on most broad-based things, there are going to be many, many problems. Any reasonably intelligent individual of an adult age should be able to understand that.

That's why you intelligently collaborate, agree on goals, plan carefully, implement over a schedule, monitor/audit, and then tweak as necessary. So everyone has skin in the game and wants the plan to work.

Sadly, America is no longer capable of an approach that complicated, an approach used by most successful businesses. It's much easier to pretend that it's all the fault of "the other tribe". We're in rapid decay.

There's no confusion at all.

The only program you can plausibly make that argument for is Social Security. And even then, not so much, because half its revenues are collected from employers, not employees. If you retire at 65 and live to be 72, you will get everything you paid into it back.

Medicare- one serious illness will wipe out all the money you ever put into it.

Unemployment- Paid by the Employer, not the employee.

Veteran's Benefits- You get a lifetime of benefits for serving four years in a non-combat role? That sounds... like welfare. You were already paid for that service.

OK, I still think that if Thune gives Schumer an ultimatum on Monday that Republican senators will go nuclear if the dems keep the shutdown.
Trump wants to end the filibuster, but it might be better to end it just for CRs, Appropriations, and Rescissions, that would get more GOP votes than ending the filibuster totally for everything.
