Small Businesses in NYC Struggling with $15 Minimum Wage

If you don't have the skills or drive to move up then your destiny is to remain a low level employee for life. What you make of your life is up to you, not the government.

Yes, everyone can get the skills and move up overnight. Problem solved. Who knew it was so easy?

no one ever said it was easy. Why should it be easy? I worked very hard for over 40 years to get where I am, with zero help from the government, all they did was tax my earnings at an ever greater rate as they increased.

Why should anyone get a free ride on the backs of those of us who worked and scraped to get what we have?

You can continue to avoid the point if you wish. Millions are busting their asses everyday but still are having a very difficult time making ends meet. Yeah, I know, move in with 5 other people.

No, that is not the answer.
For one who claims not too be leftarded, you certainly consistently whine like one.

Taxing, spending, and wealth redistribution are not a path to American success and prosperity.
That is all tax cut economics is, wealth redistribution on an Institutional basis.
WTF is "tax cut economics?"

And you still cling to the silly notion that all earnings or wealth NOT TAXED is gov't welfare to those who earn it?

You must be aware that "all wealth belongs to the state" is a core Marxist belief, right Comrade DP?

FFS … typical leftarded POV: "life ain't fair and it's too hard."

Nothing motivates personal achievement better than hard times and nothing impedes that motivation better of faster than excessive gov't coddling.

We provide opportunities - not guarantees - starting with 12 years of FREE education. What one makes of those ops is a matter of personal choices.

The bottom line? Those who demand that others carry their load deserve to be ridiculed and shunned.

The farmers would probably like for you to say that to their face.
Wait … so you are saying that life ain't perfect and sometimes gov't intervention doesn't serve our long-term interests?

I would never claim that everything the government does is good. I have no idea where you got that from.
And I have no idea how you came to believe I think that of you.

Don't tell that to me.

This is Trump's baby.
And your solution is more big, greasy, central gov't intervention and wealth redistribution? That puts you in complete agreement with any of the Democrat Socialist 2020 hopefuls.

So what's wrong with that? People save money they are not going to need, so it sits there protected and gains a small amount of interest. They lend that money to people to purchase homes, automobiles, start a business...
Great, taking from one to give to another is an acceptable practice.
Sheesh ... do you ever do anything but twist yourself into a leftarded pretzel and whine?

Banks do not take money from people but rather provide a safe place for one's cash, facilitate transactions, and borrow from willing lenders (CDs, interest-bearing accounts, etc) nor do they give it to others. They lend it.

Do you by chance employ the direct barter system?

Lowering rates is taking from savers to boost investment banks.
Again you whine like a leftard.

Lower rates benefit hundreds of millions of borrowers who can afford more house, car, and education thanks to the interest saved, and savers have millions of non-interest bearing investment options. Lower rates mean more economic growth, jobs, and wealth creation.

Tell me Chicken Little, why are you always so negative?

Socialism. Taking from one group to give to another to be able to afford more house and a car.
Now you sound as vacuous as DanielP.

Interest on capital is not socialism, and weren't you earlier whining about the impact of low rates on savers? How about the impact of higher rates - less investment, fewer jobs, less wealth - have on society as a whole?

How is it none of this makes a lick of sense to you?

And what do you consider the following to be, other than a boatload of stuff that makes bitter leftards bat-shit crazy.
  • A nicely and sustainably expanding economy (which has raised all ships) with low inflation.
  • Historically low unemployment (especially amongst our minorities) with rising wages and disposable income.
  • A strong dollar and investment markets.
  • A righting of what had been a listing (left) USSC.
  • Repeated exposure of our self-serving swamp and the nefarious players within it, including but not limited to our MSM/DNC and high-ranking mutts at both our DOJ & FBI.
  • Job Growth Underscores Economy’s Vigor; Unemployment at Half-Century Low
No wonder you bitter, anti-American leftards are so hysterical. What is good for America seems bad for you. I suppose it is.

Thank you Mr Prez and MAGA, baby!! :D

So we don't run deficits when taxes are rising?

Are you aware that despite the tax breaks that so infuriate America's bitter losers, federal tax revenues have risen in each of the last 2 years and are estimated to do so in 2019 and 2020?

No Comrade DP … in the US all wealth does not belong to the state and earning and wealth not confiscated by the gov't is not welfare.

A strong dollar is both good & bad and the POTUS does not determine it's value.

You really are every bit as angry, bitter, and ignorant as your posts make you appear.

Irrelevant to what he wants.

means nothing if you can't run massive surpluses instead of massive deficits.

Small Businesses Struggle With $15 Minimum Wage Hike in NY: 'They're Shutting Down'

EXCERPT: According to a report published Monday by the Wall Street Journal, many business leaders and owners in the Big Apple have said that they are having to cut hours, raise prices, and reduce staff in their businesses due to the rising labor costs that they say come from the recent city law bumping up the minimum wage. . . .

The president of the Queens Chamber of Commerce, Thomas Grech, told the Wall Street Journal that he has seen an increased number of small businesses closing in the last six to nine months. He believes the rising closures are due to the minimum wage legislation.

“They’re cutting their staff. They’re cutting their hours. They’re shutting down,” Grech said. “It’s not just the rent.”

Why no concern over workers struggling with a $7.25 wage?
/---/ My concern is why they are waiting for the Gubmint to fix their income problem. If they were thirsty or hungry, wouldn't they take the needed steps to get a drink of water and a sandwich, or would they wait for some bureaucrat to bring him lunch?

You mean the ones that'll lose their jobs when it goes to $15/hour?

Jesus dude...your own article refutes your bullshit.'

The only two businesses cited admit they have not even had to cut anyone and that all their employees are doing 40 hour weeks

Jesus what a lame thread
Ever noticed the self checkouts everywhere and the lack of cashiers?

I wonder what caused that?
Computers, dumbass
Well damn, aren’t you bringing your A-game.

Computers make it possible, wage costs make it a sound business decision.

Here’s a thought that will probably go over your head. If you’re doing a job that can be done with an IPad and you start making ridiculous wage demands... the IPad is going to get your job.

And we pay the employee to stay home.

Yep, for 26 weeks...it's call unemployment, dumbass.

They should be getting unemployment compensation for simply being unemployed on an at-will basis in our at-will employment States.

One way is to ask for a raise. They ask and get deamened as socialists.
