Since it Keeps Coming Up...

Public schools place more emphasis on college prep than in the past, which flies in the face of our need for blue collar technical skills.
My two grandsons attended vocational classes. One is studying to be an electrician in junior college. You need to get out into the schools more.

I'll bet your garbage man can throw a few swear words too. What he did was a firing offense. End of story.

Put away that broad brush. You cited one teacher out of how many millions?

Because it was time for science class

It is unforgiveable for state run schools to not teach academics on the taxpayers dime and instead either be warehoused in a study hall instead or go out protesting guns.

They are there for an education, and not political activism for the DNC and indoctrination.
If the students walked out, who would the teacher be teaching?

I lived through that period as a teacher. it was not as black and white as you make it out to be.

This is true. Having said that, a student fully up to speed on science, math, writing, and civics is excellently placed to go onto a vocational programs, yes? What we need to do is invest 10X into those post K-12 vocational/trade school programs and better link them to the high schools with the same focus and networking to ease the transition.
That is the responsibility of your local school board because that situation exists all over the country. My grandson just left his high school vocational classes and is not attending the local community and technical college to learn to be an electrician. They have an almost seamless transition.

Sir, you are teacher in one district. That doesn't make you the only authority on what is happening today in public schools.

I am also a public school teacher and yet on this thread you dismiss what I say without discussing it at all. This is a debate forum, not one of your lectures.

So how did this universal expertise you gained by being one teacher in one school not also come to me?
Well, I taught in 7 school districts in two states and for the now called Department of War. I also have a master's degree in educational leadership where we study schools all across this nation including private parochial and charter schools. How that for a broad base?

He's not wrong. Your mileage may vary depending on your driving habits.

Awesome, congratulations.

My observation was not that his facts were wrong in in his narrow experience. It was that he started a thread in a debate forum only to avoid debating by telling posters that he won't discuss with them because he knows so much more than they do.

I'm guessing he is not invited to family functions.

He (and we) shoud be the first to decry politicized classrooms and teachers since they make us all look bad.

Unk and I share a lot of the same opinions. I have a lot more varied experience than he does, but we tend to agree more often than not. What does that tell you?
