Crime was AWFUL in the 80s. We had a crackhead lib mayor and it was the murder capital of the world.

But the area around the Capitol was a lot better. I could safely visit there. Now, not so much. We need to get rid of these homeless tent cities within blocks of the WH and Capitol.

I had two bouts of working down there - once in my 20s and once in my 50s.

Both times, I had to constantly dodge the homeless asking for handouts, and many were aggressive. What changed, though, is that there weren’t all these homeless tents all over the place. I used to bring my lunch out to Lafayette Park on nice days and enjoy the atmosphere. Now? Forget about it.

It was interesting to see Lafayette Square and St Johns church and see where the May 29th insurrection occurred. Rioters tried to breach the gates to the White House and set St Johns church on fire. MOSTLY PEACEFUL?

Secret Service sent Trump to the bunker and the ****** lefties called him a *****….but on J6, those in government who felt threatened were HEROS.

The pecking order is not the issue. The issue is that this is our nation’s Capitol and should be safe.

I agree it’s impossible to control some of the worst areas - like SE Washington area of Ward 8. It’s almost 90% black, everyone is on welfare, illegitimate children running unsupervised.

But I’m all for carving out a “safe zone” in a two-or three-mile mile radius around the National Mall. That would be safely within the zone of multiple metro stations, and tourists could visit our nation’s Capitol without fear of being mugged or beaten.

The issue is that DC is safer than many major cities and crime is down

The Constitution granted Congress the authority(responsibility) to control of the treasury, and to declare war, too. What did they do? Turn the treasury over to a private bank, and delegate war making to whoever sits in the white House.

In 2024 the violent crime rate in DC went way down for the third year in a row, to 516 per 100,000 and is not 1200. You're using bad numbers.
DC crime rate has gone down and improved the past three years, there is no reason what so ever for trump to over reach with his power locally. At a quick glance these cities are some that are worse than D.C.
Chicago, Miami, Baltimore, Dallas, L A, Phoenix.....
We have HUGE world and Domestic problems for him to govern.

The time has come to not only bring them "down" but to make a push to zero-them-out insofar as practicable.
