My statement was based on history. I.E Walter Duranty who was a massive liar covering up the crimes of Lenin and Stalin yet also got pulitzer prizes.

My understanding is the Pulitzer board has twice declined to withdraw the award given to Duranty finding “no clear and convincing evidence of deliberate deception” in his reporting. Regardless, condemning all the award winning journalism because of one man's work is ludicrous.

Eeehhh, not really. They weren't given the awards for the story being true or not, they were given the awards for the work they did in presenting the story they had. THEY didnt know all of these details at the time, granted everyone theorized that it was a hoax, but they were just presenting a story, as partisan as it was. But nobody KNEW it was a hoax.
