Should DC become a state and get 2 Senators and voting rights for residents?

The only reason this is an issue is because those citizens do not have equal representation. Otherwise, let's divide California up into 5 states but gerrymander it up so that all the conservatives end up in only one of them. I'm not for that.
The only reason it's an issue is that Dims like you want two more Democrat Senators.

Who do you think you're fooling?

Washington should not be a state, full stop. If the residents of Washington desire voting rights, they should become residents of the surrounding states and be treated like Americans living abroad who can vote absentee. They would then pay taxes and have the rights of the state they are a resident of. Problem solved.

You want the federal government to force states to change their boundaries? That doesn't sound conservative. I guess states rights only matter when it's about slavery.

Maryland and Virginia aren't interested in taking in D.C. and D.C. isn't interested in joining either of those two and watering down their voice. They are separate states and have been for more than 200 years, their needs are different.

They already pay taxes.

WASHINGTON DC SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN THE STATUS OF A STATE.
- THE MASS MAJORITY OF THOSE (ESPECIALLY POLITIICANS) IN DC ARE TRANSIENT GOVT POLITICIANS, AIDES, LOBBYISTS, ETC...

WASHINGTON DC SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE EARLY AUSTRALIA AND BE GIVEN THE STATUS OF A CRIMINAL PENAL COLONY.

It doesn't matter who they vote for. If Republicans can't compete in a new state that is their problem. But not a reason to deny people representation.

They have a higher population than two other states and close to Alaska.

Most citizens of Nevada, Florida, Arizona, New Hampshire, Colorado, Alaska, Wyoming (200k less residents btw) and Delaware were born in either another state or country.

What happened to wanting a small federal government not pushing around states? Maryland, Virginia and D.C. do not want to live within your framework because you're afraid black people will elect politiicans.

Which has nothing to do with statehood. Wyoming doesn't even have the population of a halfway decent sized city.
You're wasting bandwidth because we already know why you want to make DC a state.

You're not fooling anyone, douchebag.

No, it's your problem because you need a Constitutional amendment and it's never going to pass.

Nope, not changing boundaries, just allowing DC residents to be remote citizens of the surrounding states, just like Americans living abroad. Think of it this way, all those Senators and Representatives are citizens of their states even when they spend the majority of their time living in Washington. The permanent residents of Washington could be treated the same as an American living in Spain who can still vote and is still an American. We do not need to create another state to grant people the right to vote.

Why or why not?

I say NO.

The remaining part of DC should be given BACK to Maryland...and then the residents have voting rights as Marylandins.

Virginia already got their piece back...now give MAryland back their piece.

By the way, the 3 westernmost counties in MAryland are trying to leave Maryland and join WEST VIRGINIA.

MAryland should love this...shed off a bunch of Red votes.

Yes, and give Puerto Rico statehood as well. It's time to balance the scales. Wyoming population 500,000 gets two senators same as California with 35 million? Oh, and trash. the EC.

As for counties threatening to leave Maryland for West Virginia. How many times has similar crap tried and failed? Tell those f'n jerks to move to West Virginia if they prefer the politics there.

Same with Washington. If somebody living there doesn't like not being able to vote for a Senator, they can move to a state and live large. The bottom line remains, you're not going to get rid of these things without a Constitutional amendment, so you'd better get started.

The politicians wouldn't be citizens of the new state, they can't. Also only about 9% of the residents of the District didn't live there the year before.

That's stupid.

So, not only to you want to deny equal representation you don't even mind the potential economic impacts of it.

And they can be residents of the surrounding states living outside the borders of those states. That could be easily accomplished with no need for a Constitutional amendment.

You're not paying attention. They get equal representation if they're citizens of the surrounding states, because they get to vote just like the other citizens of their states. Or did you miss that part?

What? You don't want the citizens of a state to have a say on the ground they live on which is located in the continental United States? That's about the dumbest idea I've ever heard.

Think of it this way, all those Senators and Representatives are citizens of their states even when they spend the majority of their time living in Washington.

Yeah, we're not talking about them.

They're not living in Spain, they are living in the United States. Jesus Christ.

Oh two whole states huh

And they're just a fucking city? lol

One that again other states gave up not to make a third state, but for a capital.

And it does, if they were as big as NYC you'd have an argument. As it is you just want senators....And no one is ever going to give them to you. lol

Why youo want this arms race when the senate skews rural I have no idea anyway...You will lose

This isn't some new phenomena, if you don't like DC, leave. lol

No one cares about your douchebag excuses. It's not going to happen.

DC is not a state, and it won't be for the foreseeable future, period.
