Should DC become a state and get 2 Senators and voting rights for residents?

Why or why not?

I say NO.

The remaining part of DC should be given BACK to Maryland...and then the residents have voting rights as Marylandins.

Virginia already got their piece back...now give MAryland back their piece.

By the way, the 3 westernmost counties in MAryland are trying to leave Maryland and join WEST VIRGINIA.

MAryland should love this...shed off a bunch of Red votes.

Being located in an actual swamp, DC should be closed down and turned into a national park like the Florida Everglades.

That should just delight the environmentalists, right?

The days of debating are over. Now its just a matter of having the votes to force things on us like Dims grabbing more power by making another DNC state or packing the courts, etc.

If they do, conservative states may want to split and form two states to compensate, much like they did in the 1800's when it came to slave verses free states. In fact, Virginia split for this very reason.

When hell freezes over.

The people of DC pay more Federal Taxes than 30 states but are not allowed to vote on how their tax dollars are spent.

During the Revolution, this was called ”Taxation without Representation”

If you are not going to treat them as US Citizens with voting rights, exempt them from federal taxes like Puerto Rico

Yes...and Puerto Rico too.

The Founding Fathers intended for DC not to have representation, so don't give us that shit.

Maryland isn't breaking apart and there is also no reason for them to be forced to take a portion of D.C. back. Or for that matter force D.C. residents into a state that is not their own. Simply put the citizens most impacted are least likely to be in favor of retrocession. It appears to mainly be 'states rights' Republican's who want to force states to change their boundaries. Ironic.

of course the residents of D.C. deserve statehood and be represented in Congress as equally as any other citizen should have.

Neat and it's irrelevant to today.

At the time D.C. only had about 3,000 residents and the smallest state had over 50k. Now D.C. has a population over 700k and outnumbers a couple of states and rivals Alaska in population.

700k U.S. citizens on the mainland who have no real representation in Congress. I don't think the founding fathers had that in mind as that would have made up about 28% of the citizens at the time of our founding.

Also, there would still be a District of Colombia and a separate new state that would encompass the majority of citizens so don't worry, we'll still have D.C. just like your little founding fathers fetish demands.

It's weird that lefties claim DC residents deserve to vote...so when you say, OK, give DC back to Maryland and let them vote.

Lefties do not want that.

They want 2 new DEM SENATORS.

It has NOTHING to do with "DISENFRANCHISED" DC residents.

If it is truly about voting rights.......RETURN DC TO MARYLAND.

Liars

I am also reminded of the old slogan...No Taxation without Representation.

Does this no longer apply?
If they wanted representation, they shouldn't have moved to DC. The purpose of that clause in the Constitution is to keep parasites from being able to vote on free stuff.

It's in the Constitution, and it will stay there for the foreseeable future. The reasons it was put there haven't changed. Parasite shouldn't be able to vote on the free stuff they get from the government

The city gets massive resources in federal largesse. Not a bad deal. And it still has poor areas.

Maryland doesn't want that and D.C. doesn't want that. You can't force a state to change it's boundaries just because you don't like the idea of two senators elected by a large black population.

It has to do with what D.C. wants. If the citizens of D.C. wanted to merge into Maryland and Maryland was fine with it then so be it. That's not the case.

What's in the Constitution? The physical boundaries of D.C.? It's not.

Parasite shouldn't be able to vote on the free stuff they get from the government

Yep, that's what it comes down to really. You want to deny U.S. citizens the right to equal representation because you're a racist douche.
