My comments also are no endorsement of any Dem nominee as I think Bernie is not a good fit to be president and Hillary is just a plain crook IMO.

Trump could beat Hillary. He could also lead the Republicans to an epic Goldwaterian type disaster. I'd bet on the latter, but the former isn't out of the question. He's a high-risk candidate.

Trump's strength is with blue collar workers, the Reagan Democrats, who form part of Hillary's base. He could eat into that, and if he brought in new voters, he might win.

However, he would almost certainly lose educated voters, and probably in the suburbs, perhaps badly. Trump being Trump, he's liable to do something so stupid, voters outside his base could overwhelmingly vote against him. He has the highest negatives of any Presidential candidate ever, and has by far the least cross-over appeal of all the Republican candidates. His support is a mile deep and a yard wide.

But the electorate might be so sick of Hillary and the Clintons, maybe they'd vote for him.

I actually think he might have a more difficult time beating Bernie. Bernie blunts some of Trump's appeal and anti-establishment feeling. Sanders is also genuine. Trump is a snake-oil salesman. Sanders is loopy, but he's honest, and the electorate may take to that.
