Sending Kids to jail for profit

Ok i can personally say that i was Court Ordered to go to Carolina Springs Academy... Heres the story:

I was on juvenille probation, Didnt want to go to school so i stayed home and threw keggers for 1st and 2nd period alot. One morning my mom and dad said we had an apointment. I got in the car and they had put the child locks on.... I am driven to Denton County Court. I am hauled inside by some rather not so nice police officers and made to speak to the judge. The judge said that not going to school was against my probation and that i was going to be locked up. So i got locked up.... My parents could have gotten me out the next day but instead they used this time of freedom from me to look into schools. One week went by.... still locked up.... two weeks goes by and i am still locked up... Finally i get another day in court with the judge to release me...

My parents go on telling the judge about a boarding school that they have found for me one being in jamaca, one being in south carolina. They explain that they want me to finish out my probation at either of these "AMAZING" schools.... well the judge agree's. Says she cant send me out of the country because of jurisdiction issues so i get Court Ordered to go to Carolina Springs Academy for the remainder of my probation... which she was so kind and extended since i was supposed to get off on Nov22 and this was the begining of Nov.. the 4th i beleave... So since she transfered my Probation to South Carolina i had to go to the school.

She agreed to release me but my parents said that my plane wouldnt leave until 3pm and my parents asked if the jail could hold me until 1:30pm seeing as it was 9AM when the judge finished with our hearing. So she agreed to hold me until later that day.... I was met at the exit doors of the jail by my parents and some of there friends... taken directally to the airport.... and they escorted me to the terminal and watched me get on the plane.(pre-9-11 as this was Nov 6th 1999.)

So there you have it... the State of Texas Officially Sent me to Carolina Springs Academy after the Request of my parents!

This is nothing new, jail is big business. There are 2 million people locked up in america 85% of them black. We are in need of a 2nd look at the law books, and the judges, I think white judges hate black people, and that's why they become judges, so they can sentence blacks to 100 years.

Any references to prove that two million your claiming are locked up or are you related to Pelosi?

There was a dude named Henry P. Anslinger, who was an FBI man. He was racist like you wouldn't believe, and wanted to come up with a way to put all the minorities in jail, while letting the whites stay free.

He also noticed that Blacks and Hispanics smoked an awful lot of reefer too. So? What did he do? Decided to make marijuana illegal (since only Blacks and Hispanics smoked it anyway), and started looking for a way to do it.

Enter the Marijuana Tax Stamp. They made it illegal to possess or grow cannabis unless you had one. They put all the infrastructure in place, but wouldn't sell any of them.

That is where cannabis was made illegal, as well as where the current attitudes towards minorities and the police come into play.

What is the solution? Legalize cannabis, sell marijuana Tax Stamps (probably 25 bucks or less), and let people start growing it, as well as release all prisoners who have marijuana charges.

You'd see the place empty out quick. Not only that, but then, only the dangerous ones would be in.

You'd probably also see the prison ratios start to get a bit more balanced.

But yes.....Killuminati is right.....the cops DO single out minorities.

It's a personal account given to me by an acquaintance. I would give you his contact information, but I really think he's been through enough in the program.

And really, you're the idiot here. You're the moron who's ignorant of the fact that BMF's include a wide variety of facilities and referrals.

I already understood this. YOU are the idiot who brought up a specific TYPE of BMF and claimed that it was relevant to a discussion of private contractors in the juvenile justice system. If you want to discuss the evils of BMFs, that's a different thread.

You understand nothing. I'd already specified that almost every variety of military school, "therapeutic" boarding school, boot camps, private "prisons," (as Tranquility Bay essentially was), wilderness programs, etc. fell under the category of "BMF." I did not state that private detention centers or correctional institutes = behavior modification facilities as I defined them. Rather, I used the example of behavior modification facilities to illustrate the potential lack of oversight that may accompany privatization.

And that's not even my main concern. My main concern was the nature of juvenile courts still functioning in a manner prohibited by In re Gault. I'm not pointing to these hopefully isolated series of incidents as an examples of a trend, but they did illustrate a lack of oversight that you seem to be unaware of.

And really, in your little "job," have you ever sat and watched the proceedings at a juvenile court? I have. (As an observer, before you make one of your idiotic little comments.) The majority of cases brought in were status offenses and victimless crimes...utter waste of money.

But you're simply ignorant of the nature of privatization on the grand scale, due to your larger ignorance of political economy. (Not a committal of the ad hominem fallacy, by the way. The charge is relevant to your ability to make valid comment about private facilities.) The fact that you drone on with your "blah, blah, your socialism won't be accepted here" indicates your lack of knowledge as to the nature of large-scale privatization in general. (Asymmetric information, principal-agent problems, etc.)
