Senator Obama,

Even I was a staunch conservative until the hate. The words, "Kill Em" did it for me. I can see in your crowd the unity and love in the sea of people every shade white, red, yellow & brown. I see you there not as just a Presidential candidate, but the beacon of light and hope in the mist of despair. I can see how much you love this country in the people I've met that support you.Yes, I was reluctant to support you, but when I thought long and hard on it, it was for all the wrong reasons.Let all of America know what I now know, how much love and unity can transform darkness into light. Ask America to become a part of this peaceful & united movement toward positive change. Imagine an America where people are induced into feelings of rage and division.Been there done that.Few will choose hate over love.It is irrational. So, talk directly to the heart of the matter. Let America know how good, love and unity is and will continue to be with you as President.Love will subdue hate and prevail.

This is not America: "Kill Him", "Terrorist!", "Socialist!" "He's an Arab!"

"But we can perhaps remember, even if only for a time, that those who live with us, are our brothers. They share with us the same short moment of life. They seek as we do, nothing but the chance to live out their lives in purpose and happiness. Winning what satisfaction and fulfillment they can. Surely this bond of common faith, this bond of common goal; can begin to teach us something. Surely we can learn, at least to look at those around us, as fellow men. Surely we can begin to work a little harder to bind up the wounds among us, and to become in our own heart's brothers and countrymen once again." - Robert F. Kennedy:eusa_whistle:

Sure, there has been recent hatred espoused by some conservatives, nothing new there. Just don't think that the liberals have a lock on not hating, for that is far from the truth. If you check into the facts you will find that liberals talk a good talk, but their actions are quite contrary and their hatred is evidenced time and time again. From my perspective, liberals by far are amongst the greatest hate mongers. They seem to have a negative attitude and a glass half-empty mentality and conclude that the U.S. is the great source of problems in the world. Wrong-headed, incomprehensible, unhealthy beliefs. Shameful.

THE AUDACITY OF HOrseshit

You obviously haven't been paying attention.

You know what's going to be funny? Right after his first term is about to expire and it's election night 2012 and the economy has created 6 million new jobs (twice that of the past 8 years with Bush), the DOW is headed back to 12,000 territory, the GDP increased by 8% last quarter, and Sarah Palin or whoever the Republicans cough up are busy talking about things that just don't matter to the American people anymore in the world of politics.

Face it, the Republican Party is out of date, out of touch. While factories are closing in Michigan and Indiana, while employment is going to reach the double digits before the end of the year, while the credit market is frozen solid and people are worried about where their next meal is going to come from... Sarah Palin is talking about Obama and the Iraq war and abortion. People are sick of the Iraq war and want government out of their personal lives. They want leadership, they want a plan on how to jumpstart this economy and all the Republicans can talk about are the things that matter the least to people.

It's BEFORE advertising 101. If I go to a skincare company and I sit and talk with them about reaching the 18-24 female demographics they want to reach and that they want a hip, trendy commercial and then I give them a commercial that reaches elderly people and can help their liver spots dissappear, I would be FIRED on the spot.

This is the easiest thing in the world to talk about and the Republicans don't want to talk about it! The economy! The Republicans are so outdated they think if they focus on Obama's ties to some washed up old terrorist, and Obama's pro-choice stance, they'll win the election. Come on, I know you're a staunch Republican, but this isn't the message people want to hear right now. The DOW had its WORST week ever and Palin talks about abortion.

All which probably would have happened no matter who got elected. Again the government cannot create jobs all it can do is relocate jobs by diverting money collected as taxes from one sector to another. The Market swill actually recover much more slowly than they otherwise would have had the pols not passed the bail out.

We should take a lesson from the FDR days. but we won't.

Don't Trust the Brain Trust - Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr. - Mises Institute

The ghost of FDR is everywhere, haunting both Washington and New York. The terrible trouble is that the minds in power have confused an economic wrecker with an angel of mercy. They are following his confusions and prescriptions day to day in an attempted repeat of the longest economic calamity in modern American history.

They have looked at the history of the New Deal and completely misunderstood it, believing the civics-book claptrap about how FDR saved us from the Depression, whereas the fact is that FDR's theories and policies lengthened and deepened it to the point that the only way out that the Roosevelt administration saw was war.

The great theoretical error of the New Dealers was to confuse the symptom of low prices with the causes of the economic downturn. The real problem was that prices were massively inflated before the stock-market crash of 1929. The correction had to occur and would have occurred peacefully, if not wholly painlessly, had the government not intervened.

No government in all of human history that has waged war on prices has won. The Great Depression is exhibit A.

First there was Hoover with his attack on the "bitter-end liquidationists," whose advice he summarily rejected. Instead he increased taxes, regulated against short selling, attempted to expand liquidity and the money supply, attempted to maintain existing wage rates, extended loans via government, and bailed out debtors with bankruptcy laws. For more on Hoover's antimarket program, see Rothbard's America's Great Depression.

Roosevelt took office and extended this program, while rhetorically claiming that it was the free-market policy of the Hoover administration that failed. Today we see Bush's attack on speculators and the mediawide attempt to claim that the meltdown is caused by unregulated markets run amok. No doubt the next president, whoever he may be, will continue this crusade against markets, pretending as if the Fed and the Bush administration haven't been trying antimarket means of rescue for fully two years, with each attempt backfiring.

and

Paul Johnson on Rothbard - Paul Johnson - Mises Institute

The severity of the Wall Street crash, he argued, was not due to the unrestrained license of a freebooting capitalist system, but to government insistence on keeping a boom going artificially by pumping in inflationary credit. The slide in stocks continued, and the real economy went into freefall, not because government interfered too little, but because it interfered too much...

...the Hoover-Roosevelt period was really a continuum, that most of the "innovations" of the New Deal were in fact expansions or intensifications of Hoover solutions, or pseudo-solutions, and that Franklin Delano Roosevelt's administration differed from Herbert Hoover's in only two important respects—it was infinitely more successful in managing its public relations, and it spent rather more taxpayers' money. And, in Rothbard's argument, the net effect of the Hoover-Roosevelt continuum of policy was to make the slump more severe and to prolong it virtually to the end of the 1930s. The Great Depression was a failure not of capitalism but of the hyperactive state.

Face it, the Republican Party is out of date, out of touch. While factories are closing in Michigan and Indiana, while employment is going to reach the double digits before the end of the year, while the credit market is frozen solid and people are worried about where their next meal is going to come from... The dimocrats are just as out of touch. Funny how the only thing Repudlicans and Dimocrats can agree on is that neither want to be blamed for the Bail Out. And so we have a repeat of history and we will undoubtedly suffer and extended even more painful recovery all because the republocrats decided to "save " us.

Again the government does not belong in the markets. But you seem to forget that while the Dims are telling us how bad things are on the one hand, on the other they're talking about a 500 dollar tax rebate, tuition assistance, the government investing in green energy, etc etc. while they make you think they care, the numbers just don't add up.

The tag line should be changed from "It's the economy, stupid" to "It's economics, idiot."

Of course the government belongs in the economy.

The opposite of government is anarchy.

We have just witnesses what anarchy does to the market.

We have just witnesses what anarchy does to the market.

Since the government has been meddling in the market for decades, we will never know will we?

what a strange and OTT the praising post.

I do believe Obama wants to unite this country and I do believe that in his rallys you see the amazing tapestry that makes up our country. But if you actually believe there aren't those on the left who are just as full of vitrol and hate for McCain as there are on the right for Obama then you need to pay better attention.

The difference is, Obama isn't insiting these people through his stump speeches while McCain/Palin not only court them but pour lighter fluid on their flames of hate.

It's a shame that a campaign that started out with the promise of being different from the past ones has disintegrated into the nasty and hateful pictures from the past. Each candidate seemed to believe that the American people wanted and deserved better. McCain and Obama both have let their promise for a cleaner campaign slide. McCain for the purpose of winning the election and Obama in order to defend himself. Neither is blameless but one IMO has more calpability in the nasty tone of this campaign.

The lack of government safeguards is what led to the collapse.

It is time to put those safeguards back.

exactly what safeguards are you talking about? Please enlighten us all. And start during the depression. What exact safeguards were enacted since say just before Hoover left office and since and which of those that were removed were the "cause" of the "crisis" from which the almighty government must save us?

You know what's going to be sad? That nothing you suggest will be the case if Obama is elected.
