In 1418, Thomas a Kempis' book, The Imitation of Christ, was written for monks. In the process of studying it today, I was (at first) astonished that monks were taught to put self first, before others. His reasoning was thoughtful and makes a lot of sense, especially in today's modern political world.

What say you? What reasons are there for putting self first over putting others first?

Same reason the flight attendant tells you to put your mask on before putting one on your baby.

It's called Ordo Amoris.

You'll get this. Meanwhile, I'll look for the clearest explanation I can find for those who won't get this.

Isnt it a central christian belief to put others first?
