Ok dork. But the federal investigation into Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, began during the Biden administration. The Department of Justice and FBI initiated the probes roughly a year prior to publicly coming to light in mid-2026. One investigation focused on the financial dealings and potential tax-related crimes of the governor's wife, while another pertained to former members of Newsom's administration, such as his former chief of staff Dana Williamson, who pleaded guilty to campaign finance fraud.

While Newsom is publicly claiming that the expanded investigations into his family are a politically motivated "hit list" orchestrated by the Trump administration, the underlying probes originated from whistleblower reports in California and were first opened under President Biden's Justice Department.
