Nah, I get along great with cops. I got a report of a door handle on brother's back door down, instead of level, yesterday. I drove over in the jeep, stopping at a church 2 blocks away to call for a squad car to meet me there, as backup and witness, in case somebody had moved in. I gave my name, identified as retired military officer, letting them know I was in a green Jeep, 5'11" 180, green jersey/blue jeans and a Walter PPQ 9mm in shoulder holster, open carry, no coat. He met me as I stood at the driveway, didn't bat an eye about 9mm, followed me around to where he could see the handle hanging. He said it was my call, but he had another car about a minute out, advised wait before entry. I waited. They arrived. I slipped past the door, checking the handle. Broke, but deadbolt still locked. They watched as I unsnapped my holster, keyed the deadbolt, standing to the side of the door and then the keylock, pushing door open. No sound. We went in looked around, nothing touched. They figured some kid broke the handle, but was afraid of noise, so did not keep trying to break in. I thanked them for coming out, saying it was just caution in case I did have to deal with somebody. The first cop, whom I did not know, said he had talked to one of the guys that patrolled by neighborhood, and had vouched for me. He said I didn't move like a 71-year-old man, but that I had done right to call instead of just going on my own, as police make good witnesses, even if not having to do anything but watch. He said to call again, if doing something that might be sketchy, as they prefer to be in on the front end, rather than investigating what happened, if possible. So, looks like I have to take that Schlage lever apart and either reset or replace the spring, (no biggy) as I have all kinds of Schlage and Master Lock parts, keyways, pins, keys, etc in my shed. Nope. I do not do stupid things with cops, so they never feel a need to do stupid things with me.
