We saw how capable the Emirati woman pilot was in leading a mission, so it is nice that other women can have the opportunity to learn how to fly. There are Chapters of this group all throughout the U.S.

Scholarship aims to help female pilots

Posted on » Friday, February 06, 2015

A PIONEERING female aviation society says it hopes a new scholarship scheme will help boost its numbers.

The Arabian Section of the 99's International Women Pilots Association currently has 69 members, but hopes to reach the golden target of 99 to match its name.

It has established the Yvonne Trueman Scholarship, named in honour of its former area governor.

"The scholarship is aimed at promoting opportunities for the flying members of the section to expand their aviation knowledge," current area governor Alia Twal told the GDN.

Arabian women allowed to fly fighter jets in combat but not to drive a car in Riyadh. There's an irony in there somewhere but I'm too tired to think about it tonight.
Thank goodness I learned to fly in a more moderate country. Being a pilots daughter helped.

Tom, don't think Saudi Arabia because we all know how backward they are when it comes to women. Think of places like Oman and Abu Dhabi where the Arabs are actually getting more modernized in their thinking and women have chances there to have careers.

Too bad, there are a growing number of good female pilots, private, commercial and military. A lot of women working on the maintenance of those planes as well, at least in the west. Women were building most of the WWII planes flown by the allies.
