We took the Crimea because were afraid. Now I understood. Thanks. You got it twisted homie.....it's the Russians who are afraid of NATO, that's why they're in such a hurry, before the Ukraine can join NATO.
Are you playing dumb now? Or maybe you're not playing. Russians are afraid the Ukraine will join NATO. Which part of that statement do you fail to comprehend?
It's not like Ukrain and Crimea are France or something. They're been part of the former USSR and seems they're gonna be again. This isn't outrage over who Russia invaded so much as resistance to a new USSR.
Along with new restrictions on free speech, Putin also imposed new taxes:

It's not even true! President Putin didn't impose any taxes. He gave regions the right to impose a tax of 3% if that region thought it needed the revenue. As I pay 10.5% sales tax 3% is barely a notice.
The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said no final decision had been made on imposing sanctions, which could strain relations with Russia further and, if they came soon, cast a pall over a state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping in September. The Washington Post first reported the Obama administration was considering sanctioning Chinese targets, possibly within the next few weeks, and said that individuals and firms from other nations could also be targeted. It did not mention Russia.
A move against Chinese entities or individuals before Xi's trip, the officials said, is possible but unlikely because of the strain it could put on the top-level diplomatic visit, which will include a black-tie state dinner at the White House hosted by President Barack Obama. “The Chinese government staunchly upholds cyber security, firmly opposes and combats all forms of cyber attacks in accordance with law,” Chinese Embassy spokesman Zhu Haiquan said in a statement. He said China wants enhanced dialogue and cooperation with the United States and that “groundless speculation, hyping up or accusation is not helpful to solve the problem.” The Russian Embassy did not respond to Reuters requests for comment.
The U.S. government has suffered a series of embarrassing cyber attacks in recent months, including one on the White House Office of Personnel Management (OPM) that potentially provided a treasure trove of data about government employees to foreign spies. U.S. officials suspect that attack was linked to China, which has denied any involvement in hacking U.S. databases and says it too has been a victim of cyber attacks. The sanctions Washington is currently considering would not target suspected hackers of government data, but rather foreign citizens and firms believed responsible for cyber attacks on commercial enterprises, one official said. If taken, the action would be the administration’s first use of an executive order signed by Obama in April to crack down on foreign hackers accused of penetrating U.S. computer systems. The officials declined to name any potential targets, concerned that advance warning would allow them to hide assets.
One U.S. official said that sanctions imposed on individuals or companies would effectively cut them off from using the U.S. financial system, which could be a death-sentence for a serious business venture. The official also said that entities or individuals from countries other than Russia or China could face sanctions. Another U.S. official suggested that a decision on targeting Chinese entities could depend partly on whether diplomatic efforts, such as last week's visit by White House national security adviser Susan Rice to Beijing last week, produce positive results going forward. Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Russel visits China next weekend for further talks ahead of Xi's U.S. trip in the second half of September.

Exclusive: U.S. weighs sanctioning Russia as well as China in cyber attacks
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is considering sanctions against both Russian and Chinese individuals and companies for cyber attacks against U.S. commercial targets, several U.S. officials said on Monday.
Who cares about Baltic states? They were allowed to leave Soviet Union even before the it collapsed.
Take a look at some numbers. Population of 3 countries of Baltic states:
- in Estonia is less than 1.4 million
- in Lithuania is less than 3 million
- in Latvia is equal to 2.013 million.
All together are less than 6.5 million. No industry. Agriculture and tourism (in summer) are their only income. BTW, Russian sanctions hurt them the most.
And compare to population of just 2 big cities of Russia:
- in Moscow equal to 11.92 million
- in St. Petersburg is equal to 4.991 million.
Baltic states could be a subject of interest only for NATO, because the best they can do is to bark at Russia hiding behind the US&EU.
The relationship of Russia and Ukraine through the centuries is completely different.
1. Eastern part of Ukraine (half of the 40 million country) as well as Belarus were parts of Russia for centuries, many centuries before the world even heard about the USA existence. Russia was called “Kiev Russia” and Kiev was called ”the mother of Russian cities”. In 988 Prince Vladimir has started baptizing the people of Russia in the river Dnepr, city of Kiev.
This mass baptism became the iconic inaugural event in the Christianization of the state of Kievan Rus'.

So, for Russia Ukraine basically is the same people, for half of a country Russian is still the first language (in spite of a forced total ukrainization of Russian speaking population, which started as soon as Ukraine became “independent”) . When Junta came to the power after the coup and started genocide of its population (killing the ones who disagree with it, pulling the people into the war and misery), we can understand Russia/Putin’s concerns about it. What we don’t understand: what’s the USA business there. USA have had nothing to do with Ukraine in the past, while the blood obviously is thicker than water.
2. In 1922 after the October revolution Lenin “gave“ a part of Russia (which is now Eastern Ukraine) to Ukrainian republic ( to raise the percentage of proletariat in Ukrainian republic), however it was within the same country of the USSR. Later in 1954 Khrushchev “gave” Crimean peninsula to Ukrainian republic.
(The history of Western Ukraine is different).
3. In 1992 three crooks (Yeltsyn, Kravchuk, Shushkevitch) with Washington’s blessing have separated Ukraine and Belarus’ from Russia and declared them separate countries. So, they have been called separate countries for 24 years (can 24 years be compared to centuries?). The people living in Eastern Ukraine (including myself) felt like treir Motherland has been stolen from them and found themselves living in a foreign and not friendly country of Ukraine. However Western Ukrainians were happy. (And since then what makes Western Ukrainians happy is bad for Eastern Ukrainians and vise verse).
About 70 or 80% of the people in Eastern Ukraine want to stay in a Custom Union with Russia, Belarus’ and Kazakhstan. And Western Ukrainians want to join the EU and tear Ukraine away from Russia for good. And that’s why Kiev has pulled its troops to Donbass

Hey Stratford, I see you're continuing to post your Russian propaganda, pretending you're Ukrainian. LOL.
Please feel free to provide evidence that most Eastern Ukrainians prefer to break away from Ukraine.
Your lies only work on ignorant readers, but I admit your lies are effective for that reason.

PK, according to you presenting the actual numbers of Baltic states' population and some historical facts is Russian propaganda? Something is definitely wrong with you. You need to see a mental doctor. Urgently.
When I read the Ukrainians I feel sorry for these poor mental people who can not do the elementary logical operations. So, you could not provide evidence that most Eastern Ukrainians prefer to break away from Ukraine? LOL.
