We know that Russia is selling Oil to China now. The Putinistas claim that this shows how Russia can harm the West. I personally think this shows how China will capitalize on the misfortune of Russia. Let’s be honest, China won’t be paying the going rate for that Oil, they’ll be getting it at a significant discount. Which is both textbook Socialist, and Capitalist.
China initially stated that it was a friend to Russia, and would not participate in any Sanctions. Then Russia asked for Aircraft parts and support to make up the loss of access to the market for those vital items. China says no. Or Nyet if you’re a Putinista.
So we have the background for the latest Russian request. Russia needs weapons to continue the war in Ukraine.
It may seem hard to believe, but then again, perhaps it isn’t so hard to believe. Remember that Russia has had to turn to first Belarus to get additional support, and then to import Syrian fighters to make up losses in the invasion force.
So now Russia is short of soldiers, and weapons, for a war that they estimated would take a few days. The estimations are so far off of reality, that the head of the FSB is reportedly under House Arrest. And that there have been raids of FSB facilities to find out how corrupt they are. This is from Twitter, which is why I am saying reports, and reportedly. I’m sure that we could not learn the truth from Russian News, since everything that Russia has said has been an outright lie.
There is no information on how China has replied to the request for additional weapons. However, we can see that Russia is maneuvering themselves to become little more than a Vassal to China. Dependent upon China for money, they’ll be selling Oil at cut rate prices, with little choice because nobody else will buy.
So what effect will that have on the rest of the world? Well, people China usually buys from will still have oil to sell, and they’ll sell it at the market price. Tankers which were carrying Oil and Gas from Russia will be busy carrying it towards Europe, so the cost will got up a little but probably not much. Today I noticed the price had dropped at every gas station I went by. It was $4.49 a couple days ago, today it was $4.29
Now, Russia is going to become a boot licking lackey of China. Unable to do anything to annoy their new Masters, because they have cut off the rest of the world with their Aggressive behavior and dishonesty. China will profit with cheaper Oil than they can get in the open market.
Here is my prediction. I think China will provide a few weapons to Russia, enough to let them finish taking Ukraine. This will insure that Russia wins Ukraine, but is beholding to China for a decade, or more, and unable thanks to Sanctions, to get money anywhere else, or buy anywhere else. It locks Russia in as a customer, and supplier, at very favorable terms, favorable to China.
I wonder if some of our posters, who have artistic talent, can come up with a comic of Putin on his knees holding out a bowl with Xi placing a single small dollop of Gruel inside.
I wonder if China will force the Russian representatives to call them Master?
The Cold War 2.0 is overblown. China's economic bailout of Russia is far less than it appears.
China seeks to maintain economic ties with Russia, but treads lightly to avoid getting hit by sanctions itself.
