Fannie and Freddie were a contributing factor, albeit not the only one. Anyone who denies that is...well....in denial.
Couple that with artificially low interest rates as the status quo from the Fed, congressional dereliction of duty and political pressure from race baiters, it's little wonder that a lot of people believed that the bubble would never pop.
Of course, we can always rely upon those who caused those problems to stand around like shocked and amazed bystanders when the bubble bursts, and come running in as the only "fix" for that which they created.
