If you want their oranges, you don't tariff their oranges. If you don't want their cars, you tariff their cars. Are you really this stupid?
Example. Clothing produced in Mexico has tariff-free access to the United States market.
We don't want Chinese EV's here in America because the Chinese government subsidizes those car companies. The American government does not subsidize American EV manufacturers. So our EV companies would be at a disadvantage. And as soon as China puts them out of business, they will raise the price and the Chinese government will stop subsidizing them. Once they have cornered the market and have a monopoly.
Did we tax coffee from Brazil? No we did not. Now we do.
the US has announced tariffs on coffee beans imported from Brazil and Colombia
Exports The top exports of Brazil are Soybeans ($53.1B), Crude Petroleum ($45.6B), Iron Ore ($34B), Raw Sugar ($16.2B), and Corn ($14.4B), exporting mostly to China ($106B), United States ($37B), Argentina ($17.2B), Netherlands ($11.4B), and Chile ($8.68B).
I would tariff their soybeans and corn. We can grow those here.
