I do hope whoever gave him his firearm and taser got a chewing out as well. This deputy was not trained enough to be carrying weapons as a professional law enforcement officer.

That's about right. An accidental involuntary manslaughter charge for a first time offender usually ends with a sentence about like this.

Sends a strong message to law enforcement because THIS case was messy. He was a good ole boy VOLUNTEER. His agency's chief made all sorts of training exceptions for him so he could come ride along and "play cop".

He never should've been in that uniform or on THAT call. If he wants to volunteer....direct traffic at the schools.

Sad for all involved. Not unexpected when STANDARDS ARE LOWERED or ignored for anyone....this guy included.

this. obviously bates was guilty, but so is everyone that let him pay to play cop. the sheriff should serve time as well
