You are correct. This is about the SAVE Act though. It requires specific documentation to register to vote. Once registered, you just need a government ID to actually vote. Or maybe a nice piece of pie.

Indeed, that was further clarified in this thread. Thats actually disappointing to me as I would have put a four year timeline into the law to mandate every would have to re-register, absent already have met those terms when you did your Real ID.
