They're back. Like the fourth sequel to a bad horror movie, the Republican Right has once again chosen to embrace its long ignoble, hypocritical tradition of pandering to -- and stoking -- fear.

As the election nears, their ads are filled with images of ISIL terrorists, Ebola viruses, Secret Service breaches, and "porous" borders through which knife-wielding Muslim extremists are surely infiltrating every corner of our society.

It's not just disgusting. It's also hypocritical. The fact is that the Republicans have an abysmal record when it comes to defending the security of ordinary Americans.

Last week, the New York Times reported that:

Darkness is enveloping Americans politics.

With four weeks to go before the midterm elections, Republicans have made questions of how safe we are -- from disease, terrorism or something unspoken and perhaps more ominous -- central in their attacks against Democrats. Their message is decidedly grim: President Obama and the Democratic Party run a government that is so fundamentally broken it cannot offer its people the most basic protection from harm.

But this is nothing new. Right-wing demagogues have perfected their techniques for appealing to our darkest fears for decades. It's embedded in their DNA.

Fearmongering is about all right-wingers have.

It IS NOT the job of the Government to protect or defend ordinary citizens on a daily basis. It IS the job of the Government to defend this country on a daily basis

Hmm, lets see. Clinton: totally ineffective respone to terrorism leading to 9/11.
Bush, effective response tjhat resulted in no terrorist incidents on US soil after 9/11.
Obama: Same policy as Clinton.

The primary function of government is the safety of its citizens. Obama and the Dems have utterly failed. Smallest army since 1940.

Talk about giving in to fear. The left has been spreading it left and right because they see the writing on the wall, the shit IS getting ready to hit their fanny's out the DOOR.

lets roll people VOTE THEM OUT

You want some examples? Just go off to the right in the Active Topics and see who it is GIVING in to fear. It's not a pretty picture.

Give Obama the credit he is due. He has destroyed the Democrat Party.

I wonder how many people get that reference, Tiny? The ad was shocking in its time. And effective. Which is all Dems have cared about.

WOW! The far left runs in and claims someone's "rights" are being violated (when they are not) is not fear mongering to you?

So you don't believe that global warming BS?

But don't accuse the Nyslimes of being BIASED. you got that

what a bunch of howling from the mongrels of the left...we can smell your fear through our computers. and it's stinky stuff

This is a particularly scary time of the year for the non-secular righties, what with demonic/satanic rites on Halloween and the fear of not winning enough seats in the house, not to mention having yet another year to see a black man in a white man house..

Good thing no church in the US has Halloween parties for the kids or else your post would like fear mongering..

Most definitely. I used to go to the carnivals at the Catholic Church, but Arkanass made a law that you could not win prizes by gambling, even, bingo...

I'm sure the Democrats are innocent of such "fear" messages.... as the image of grandma in a wheelchair is pushed towards the cliff.

ISIL are terrorist who have in fact killed Americans,Ebola is a virus that is the states, there have been Secret Services breaches and lapses, and the border is porous and not secure. What shitting bull calls fear mongering because Obama is President they would call facts if this was a Republican President.
