However, wouldn't it be great to discuss the merits of a USSC nominee on their ability as a jurist, not their supposed party affiliation? And that is why the US is sliding into irrelevance. It'll take a few more decades for it to happen but it will happen. Because now all that matters is the political aspects of your institutions, not what they are actually doing or why they were created in the first place.

Democrats think that Republicans are obligated to approve their nominations.The problem began when Senate Republicans refused to consider Obama's nomination of Garland 11 months before the election in 2106 citing a speech made by Biden in 1992 suggesting that nominations in an election year should be held back for the next president.
