Someone should go ask Norm Coleman if he still thinks giving up and handing the election to Al Franken really was good for the country.

Why didn’t you post this thread in 2016?
Interesting factoid. Obama did nominate someone to the SCOTUS in 2016. No one stopped him from doing that. Didn't know that, huh?
Merrick Garland
Exactly. Thank you. You lied, Obama made a SCOTUS nomination. You lied and said he wasn't allowed to do that. He was allowed, and he did make a nomination. Please stick to truth and stop lying. Thanks
He was not allowed to fill a seat during his legal term as President.

Republicans did not say Garland is an unacceptable choice, McConnell said......We will not allow you to fill a vacancy during an election year.

Now, it seems, McConnell is saying election year has nothing to do with it. He is saying you are not allowed to fill a seat while an opposition party holds the Senate
The senate didn't stop Obama from filling the seat. All he had to do was to nominate someone acceptable to the republicans. He chose not to nominate anyone when the senate rejected Garland by ignoring the nomination. There was a time, not even that long ago, that SCOTUS nominees were people that both parties could agree on. The Democrats changed that.
Yep. Democrats changed that and invented the term to "Bork" someone at the same time. Then they Borked Thomas. Republicans continued to confirm leftist Democrats for two Obama picks, Sotomayor and Kagan.

Failing to confirm far left Garland was the first time they fought back.

Democrats in their typical form do what they do then whine when they get it back
We dont repay them for their bad behavior. We really need to start.
Yep. That's a big part of why I'm voting for Trump in 2020. He's finally fighting back. I voted for Gary Johnson in 2016. Republicans have to stop fighting barbarians with Marcus of Queensbury rules

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who blocked Merrick Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court in 2016, reaffirmed on Tuesday that he would happily ram through confirmation of one of President Donald Trump’s nominees if a vacancy occurred in the final months of Trump’s term.

Now, his office is defending that statement, claiming it was not a reversal of McConnell’s previous comments on the matter.

McConnell claimed in 2016 that Garland’s nomination by President Barack Obama, following Justice Antonin Scalia’s death, should not be brought to a vote because “the American people should have a say in the Court’s direction.” In February of that year, he released a statement vowing to keep the seat open so that the next president would be able to fill it.

“The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice,” he said. “Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President.”

They tape this stuff you know Mitch
As I said yesterday, Mitch will definitely move to confirm a nominee, nominated by the president. Of course it absolutely true, doing so is 180 degrees from his principled/unprincipled? stance of 2016. Anybody that thought principle or lack thereof would slow down the process for people like Mitch were living in a dream world. It is equally true that it will not be looked on favorably by the electorate, and will hand the Presidency to the Biden and deliver the Senate to the Democrats. Trump does not give a damn about the Senate, as on his side of the fence they are reduced to boot lickers, place holders, and turncoats to the cult of trump and were probably going to lose the Senate anyway, so they are perfect to take one for the cause, tough patooties.
Everyday, Trump does something that you bozos claim will hand victory to Biden and Democrats.

That won't turn out the way you hope.
It very welll might. Guess we'll have to wait till the early voting, in person voting and mail in / absentee voting is counted.
Does that include all the ballots marked D that are suddenly "found" in close precincts?
I have not seen these ballots. I would wait until I hear or see to become alarmed.

Since McConnell pulled his shit in 2016 it's a brand new game. This is what happens when republicans make the government work in new and interesting ways for partisan gain.
it is, we get another SC Justice on the court......if FDR hadn't made the court partisan I may actually care about this, but I don't.......Cocaine Mitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets cut the partisan bullshit shall we if the Democrats had controlled the Senate in 2016 Merrick Garland would be on the Supreme Court right now they would not have waited till after the election if they controlled the Senate today they would not take up any nomination by Trump. Both parties are more than willing to use the power they hold to their advantage when suits them and be hypocrites when they don't and it doesn't.
This is not even a question it's a proven fact. Obama and Dems squealed like stuck pigs when Republicans refused to allow Obama to fill that seat. Now they are attempting a complete flip flop. This is the Dem's MO, flip positions and rules when it favors Dems, flip back when it doesn't.
It is the Republican Senate doing a flip flop, refusing to consider a democrat nominee 11 months before the election and considering a republican nominee weeks before an election. The Republicans should be excising at least a pretense of fairness.
Right because Dems are fair if nothing else and would do the same if in our shoes. What a giant LOAD OF SHIT! :eusa_hand:
After this, I'm sure they will. Only democrat presidential nominees will be consider by a democrat senate in an election year and only republic presidential nominees will be considered by a republican senate. But this is just one of many new precedents that are being set in this administration, such as declaring national emergencies to fulfill campaign promises, making campaigning part of the offical duties of the president, dismissing a senate trial of impeached of the president without conducting a trial, and finally the acceptance that the president is above the law.

Donald Trump greatest accomplishments are not his tax cut that put billions into the pockets of our largest corporations, nor his great border wall that Mexico has paid for, nor his success in convincing the country that coronavirus is just a bad case of the flu but rather the reshaping of the government into an autocracy where the balance of power between the branches of government has shifted to presidency.

Each party has claimed that the upcoming election is the most important every. This has been the case in almost every election but this time it really is because it's much more than a referendum on Donald Trump. It is a referendum on the shift of power toward the presidency and whether we want it to continue.

Gov. Murphy Calls on Paterson Councilmen Charged in Voting Fraud Scheme to Step Down
The Board of Elections previously said about 800 votes would be set aside and not counted, amid charges they were found improperly bundled in mailboxes in Paterson as well as at a drop box in nearby Haledon.

After Abrams Refuses to Concede, GA Dems Announce Thousands of Votes Found
Georgia officials found a treasure trove of uncounted ballots Saturday, which the campaign of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams hopes will keep her campaign alive.
...
That’s why the number of ballots found Saturday is important. The Abrams camp said there were 26,846 ballots to be counted, while Kemp’s campaign said there are only 21,190 ballots to count.

Broward recount shenanigans: 46,000 Democrat votes “found” after election day, with more to come
Republicans Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis may be in trouble. Despite clear margins of victory for both men on election night, Democrat election supervisors in Broward and Palm Beach counties say they aren’t done tallying up votes. Two days after the polls closed on Tuesday night, Democrat candidates Bill Nelson and Andrew Gillum benefited from nearly 46,000 Democrat votes that have been “found” in those counties and added to the statewide election outcome, throwing Florida into a partisan uproar over mandatory hand and machine recounts and the possibility that the integrity of the election process has been compromised.

UPDATE: This story has been updated to reflect that at approximately 2pm Eastern, the Broward County Supervisor of Elections posted another 11,300 votes (which broke 70-30 in favor of Democrats). This new tranche of ballots triggered a mandatory machine recount in the governor’s race and a hand recount in the U.S. Senate race.

UPDATE #2: After another update sometime after 5pm, Nelson has gained another 2,000 votes, cutting Scott’s statewide lead to just 15,092 votes. It is unclear where these last 2,000 votes came from.

RBG was a woman who never let any man silence her. The most fitting tribute to her is to refuse to be silenced, and to name exactly what Trump is trying to do: Steal another SC seat.

the Russians cheat at sports and foreign elections

the GOP cheats at local elections and Supreme Court vacancies

the Republican Senators look like pathetic little weasels not standing up to Trump. i'm looking at you, Mittens!
