For starters, it isn’t even “the free market” since these ventilators are being purchased with government funds. Second, if the manufacturers and market were so good at providing ventilators, it wouldn’t matter if GM changed their mind, as there would be someone else to fill their place.
Finally, if we had been hit as hard and as quickly as Italy had, we would have been in the exact same position of having to ration care, social medicine or not.

A free market is what has enabled any and all companies that wish to participate to begin manufacturing ventilators. If it turns out that GM, which has the capacity and facilities, refused to manufacture ventilators when asked to do so by our country, I assure you they will feel that on the showroom floors and another nail in their coffin.
As you know, it was the quick action by President Donald Trump who instituted travel bans from the affected areas of China which gave us more time than Italy. Why is that offensive to you?
